53 Buick Roadmaste, big beautiful behemoths, gotta love those portholes!
My second choice would be a 59 Caddy Coupe DeVille, those tailfins were the bomb.

Two iconic figures. The gentleman wanted to shoot his new car against the newly completed Golden Gate Bridge.

Likely his new '38 Ford five-window coupe (the whale-baring-his-baleen nose gives it away) is either a hot rod now or it has been recycled into a Toyota.

But the bridge...still...stands!

My vote for favorite car from then has to be a Lincoln Zephyr or a fastback G.M. I had a 47 Fleetline and can't get those out of my head. I love your car Straighteight. These cars have such art deco, classic style. One day I will have another or something really close.

Thanks very much, CC. Your Fleetline had basically the same body as my Buick, all 1942 styling rehashed until '49.

The '48-'49 Series 46S Special was the only short-wheelbase Sedanet and the only Sedanet to bridge the gap between Buick/Cadillac and the rest of the GM lineup. In other words, every division except Cadillac had a version of the 46S sheetmetal with their own engines and transmissions (Chevs had flathead sixes, Pontiac offered a flathead six and a flathead eight, Buick had the overhead valve eight). Your Fleetline was just Chev's version. Olds also had the body, also with a six or an eight.

Meanwhile, the long wheelbase Sedanet of the Super and Roadmaster was only shared with Cadillac, one reason they are worth so much more (the Astor '47 Roadmaster Sedanet sold at auction for something like $79,000).

It's a bit late for the Golden Era, but the '59 Caddy convertible is one of several cars on my dream car list. And of course, it has to be pink...

A '59 Cadillacs is wonderful. Unless someone destroys it by chopping off the top, as was done to this unfortunate machine. :eusa_doh:

Believe it or not, Oldsmobile also used the long wheelbase C-Body Sedanette on its 96 and 98 Series. These cars are super-rare...I don't think I've ever seen a real one, but they show up in Olds ads and catalogs.

And the Chevy Six was OHV like the Buick Eight. From 1914 on, Chevy never made an L-Head engine. In the Golden Era, you could often tell a Chevy at a stop light from the sound of the ticking valve lifters. The oiling to the top of the good old "Stovebolt Six" was inadequate, with valvetrain wear as the inevitable result.

Hope this one hasn't been posted before:

A 1933 Pierce Arrow Silver Arrow:

And the 1938 Delage Cabriolet:

Also, I'm trying to figure out what car this is:

Whups, re-checked the old Standard Catalog and I stand corrected!

Long time lurker, first time poster hehe

Nice pix from all, keep them coming !

I really love those Deco rides, to my eye they are the most streamlined, and ornate/beautiful cars ever manufactured.

Here are my rides.....plan are afoot to complement them with either a 39 Plymouth coupe or a 1948 Chevy Fleetline/Pontiac Torpedo fastback coupe.

Oh and then there's the 41-48 Indian Chief..... one day ;)

The 57 Chevrolet is a Bel Air Wagon, LA built, one owner car that is totally original other than an altitude adjustment. She has a 283, Poweglide, 3.36 combo that also has power steering and A/C The running gear is original and numbers matching - I have removed the tinted glass (yuk) and added disc brakes as I drive her almost daily. Its crazy how much attention she gets on the road !!

My 32 Ford 3W has been totally rebuilt by myself. I know its not an original Deco ride, but its mine, I built her and she really runs hard. Ill NEVER sell it.

Cheers...

No Im not although my car was featured in their online mag. I LOVE that mag.

Truth is, I love all Golden Era rides, whether stock/original or hot rodded. Notice I said HOT rodded, not STREET rodded.

Hop Ups or Gow Jobs as they were called at the time, were the REAL hot rods. They ARE Golden Era cars.....built, maintained, raced and shown DURING the Golden Era. Traditional styling abounds, along with period correct componentry. So much so that appear alongside concours restorations of other Golden Era makes on Pebble Beach annually.

Street rods.....well theyre another story altogether.

Very nice Hop Up! Reminds me of the 32 5 window out in my garage. It belongs to my exboyfriend and was built by his Pop before he died....He'll never sell his either!
