My wife and I took a New Year's Day hike to the headwaters of the Catawba River at Catawba Falls today. It was a balmy 23 degrees. This was a great way to start off the new year.

I picked up some of my grandchildren from school the other day and before I got them home this is what I saw in the back seat. Either they all had a very busy day, or I have a carbon monoxide leak in my car.

My two youngest grandchildren came to visit today.

I smiled when I saw Adeline come in the house this afternoon wearing her little straw garden hat. My dear aunt Hazel had a hat just like that one that she used to wear when she worked out in the yard and garden. I still have Hazel's old hat, and treasure it as a memory of times past. Seeing Adeline in her little hat today brought back good memories. I know Hazel would have loved Adeline (and all her great-great nieces and nephews that she never got a chance to meet). One of these days, when Adeline is old enough, I'll get Hazel's old hat out and let her wear it some.
