Extreme vintage - monstrous leather coat of the Hungarian rebel.

This vintage leather coat has its very old history.
In 1956, an uprising against the communist system began in the Hungarian capital of Budapest. Soviet troops were sent to suppress this insurrection. Among the Soviet military was a young officer who liked the style of clothing of Hungarian rebels, many of whom were wearing leather coats of this style. The officer gave himself the word - when this horror ends, he will buy himself the same leather coat. After all, he had a young wife and he wanted to look good. He survived and kept his promise to himself - this leather coat was sewn on an individual order, in one of the Budapest studios in 1956, from the birth of Christ, especially for a Soviet officer.
It remains for me to say that this young officer was my father.
He was a kindly and fair man who knows what an officer's honor is.

So, now to the point.
We have:
1. Vintage leather coat of excellent quality and in perfect condition.
Date of manufacture - 1956 year, Budapest, Hungary. The coat was not often dressed and kept very carefully. Light attrition only gives the product an authentic look and conveys the spirit and style of that time.
2. Very heavy and thick skin of high density. At the same time, the skin is very mild.
3. The coat has a basic lining made from a thick flannel and a removable insulation made of natural sheep wool, which is fixed to the buttons.
4. The coat was made by individual order and very qualitatively sewed from high-quality
natural materials. In our time, such materials are quite rare and very expensive.
5. The coat is fastened with an internal, invisible strap and from the outside using a wide belt with buckles. There are no buttons on the outside.
6. The coat looks very good. Everything is clearly visible in the photo.
7. The coat has never been repaired or painted. This is its natural color.
8. The coat does not have any defects or mechanical damages.

This coat will be perfect for you if your size: Height - 187+/-2 cm.
Chest – 107+/-2 cm.
Waist – 96+/-2 cm.
Weight – 92+/-2 kg.
A man-model in photos has exactly such sizes.

I'm very sad to part with this thing. But my lifestyle does not allow me to wear this coat,
so it performs a function only as a memory of my father.
However, I know that it can bring many positive emotions to people who love and
understand the vintage things of this kind.

I think it's a lovely example of this style, and easily worth $500+ based on quality of materials and construction... I'd have to handle it in person to be able to say if more. But what I think it's worth, and what they tend to go for in the market are two different things, I'm afraid, and I haven't been able to move mine for $300 for over a year... So that should tell you something, something I'm afraid that you probably don't want to hear. But your photos are very nice, and good photos will help sell.

My advice, if you're motivated to sell it quickly, list it for a low opening bid (like $10) and see what you get for it, but don't expect it to go for much more than half what you're asking here, if you're lucky, and possibly as low as $200-300. If you're not motivated to sell quickly, set your price where you want, and let it sit out for as long as you like, and who knows, maybe someone will come along who will give what you're asking, or offer an amount that you find fair.

The price you ask for is too much. You can not sell it for 1000usd. As Guppy said it is worth max. 300usd.

I do think your photos look nicer, and it might be in better condition, too. So maybe yours will actually move at a price that mine has been sitting at. I wish I could try it on Best wishes.

This coat is in incredibly good condition and it's brown, most similar ones I have seen were green or black which makes it harder to wear them without making people throw stones at you, in Germany at least. The best advice I can give you is to give it more time. Sooner or later an enthusiast is going to come along and he's going to pay you well for it, but this may take time. I wouldn't rush into selling it cheaply if it's a family heritage piece. In fact, I would rather keep it than sell it for lousy 300 USD.

Supply and demand and timing. At Christmas it can be difficult to move certain less in demand pieces. Even high in demand pieces!

I'm not in a hurry to sell it and will wait for my buyer.
I wrote in this forum to increase the chances for a successful sale.
Maybe someone will offer it to their friends and acquaintances or tell me where to sell it better.

If any of the so called high-street leathers jacket is worth three plus grands, this coat should easily go for $10,000 but unfortunately, that's not how it works. I agree with Guppy and JJ on this. And while this coat is not often seen even in Europe, you can still find it. For instance, my good friends grandfather still has it.

Don't get me wrong, I agree it's worth the money because in another 100 years, someone else will be selling it in the exact same condition but...

I'd keep it. Well, personally, I would take it to a leather jacket tailor and have it converted into something else. I've seen a motorcycle leather jacket being made out of one that was very similar, albeit Polish and with buttons on the front and it turned out spectacular. They had zipper installed, pockets, sleeve zips, etc. Even kept the sheepskin lining.

Anything over $300 has to have a tag with a brand name attached to it. It's what sells most of these things. Sadly.

Considering the provenance of the coat, I would keep it before I would sell it for less than $1,000. But then, I seldom sell anything. Many collectors peruse eBay. I would have a go there.

Agreed, if you're not urgently needing to sell and can be patient, then in time perhaps a buyer will find you who will appreciate what you have and be willing to give you close to what you're asking. I'm patient, myself, when I sell something I know the value of, I'm content to wait until I find a buyer who agrees. Finding the buyer is the trick.

I'm not aware how eBay works in other countries, but for accounts in the USA, we get a certain amount of free listings per month. It doesn't cost anything to list, but there are final value fees, pay pal transaction fees, and the cost of shipping, which will eat up anywhere from 13-15% of what it sells for on eBay.

There are vintage sellers on Etsy, and there are other sites for high end and vintage clothing, like grailed (tends to be more fashion-focused, less vintage) and the vintageleatherjackets forum.
