I may have committed the ultimate transgression. I'm wearing a North Face Bionic soft shell and I love it. Maybe I'll exit my leathers....:)

I like things that last a long time, and I've mainly kept those, but things still fade

I have a similar view. My wardrobe is still predominantly made up of Old Town workwear clothing and overhead shirts (from Old Town, Darcy Clothing, Nigel Cabourn, and vintage), RM Williams boots.
These cover four seasons, unless the summers are very hot, although there is a linen suit in there.
Most of the items have been picked up from EBAY (several purchased directly from Old Town in Norfolk), modified to fit by my local tailor in Bristol.
These items stay, occasionally I make an error and buy an Old Town pattern that doesn’t suit me (I avoid the wider legs, as at 5’8” I’m not tall enough to carry them off) based on the hope that magically things have changed.
I’m in my 50s now and a decade or so ago I found the style that will suit me going forward (and which are sufficiently good quality that they last). I recently had my tailor darn a couple of holes in a much loved pair of OT moleskin trousers (one of my first purchases and now relegated to gardening wear) and they will probably go on for another decade.

Old Town's 'Overall' jacket has been the one for me, which I absolutely love the style and fit of - although I like it so much I have bought another one of them, in a lighter weight for warmer weather. The heavier duty 'engineers navy stout twill' has proven a bit too warm in the summer, but does prove sufficiently warm in the winter despite only being cotton. Was out today for a walk on a typical damp dismal October day in northern England wearing it over a shirt and undershirt and was spot on for the conditions

I have a couple of Overall jackets (and a Medway, which is similar). They’re really practical jackets.

Can't see myself ducking out any time soon. The moment of enlightenment for me was the realisation many years ago that "other leathers exist". The first - and, for many years, only, leather jacket I wanted was a Perfecto type - originally influenced by Alice Cooper, then Joey Ramone, then Marlon Brando..... I had two or three of those over the years, one replacing the other as I grew out of them, or - in those days, buying them for thirty quid used - they needed a new lining or something else which made it cheaper to buy another and sell the old one on or donate it. Then in time I decided I also needed something 'tamer' so I could occasionally wear a leather jacket to the office without it looking like "look at me, trendy lecturer", and a cafe racer cam along. Then I discovered colour and started to think about a brown leather jacket too....

Nowadays, I no longer think of "the perfect jacket" as there is no, one style I prefer. I have a range of jackets with a range of purposes (cold weather, warm weather, casual, office-casual.... on it goes) for different occasions. Some of them happen to be leather, others aren't. I just don't think of having "a [one] leather jacket" any more. That being the case, there's no ultimate aim grail jacket, and so no 'exit' point.

Hoosier Daddy, that Hwyman looks perfect on you...your best jacket imo.

That's the one that sold me on giving the style a go. Course, now I'm tempted to go looking for a brown one again....

I have certainly slowed this year - Covid has meant I've just not had the opportunity or need to add to the collection. And tbh, this morning I walked past Son of Stag in London this morning and I just couldn't be bothered. I knew it was way overpriced and I have better things to do with my money. Am I on the outs? Nah, but priorities are priorities...

Nah, SoS are overpriced enough that it's like window shopping Morgans. Some days you're just not in the mood for looking at something you'll never buy... TBH, too I'd never bother with looking at them for leather if I had Aero in easy reach. SoS's point if interest really is their non-leather stuff, though tbh there's only so often I can look at a rail of £300 TYpe IIIs myself...

Heretic! Burn him!

I think there's a point we all come to, whether it's clothes, guitars, bikes or whatever.... you hang out in a hobby or style long enough, you find the niche that suits you and it comes time to streamline. I have a bunch of leathers I need to sell for one reason and another. All to be replaced with 'new' options, reflecting the refinements in what I like in a jacket. I still tend mostly to buy Aero because I really like them and they do what I want. I've owned quite a few different labels over the years, though, including Schott, Eastman, Lost Worlds, Taylor's, Johnson and Wested.

I can't think beyond one more jacket really, I should finally have a crosszip.

I really don't have body length for any of the coat style and the climate here also won't allow me to wear them, and I dislike knit cuff since most of the time I wear my jackets over long sleeve shirts and with no moving air the jacket would be quickly too hot to wear here so no aviation, varsity type either.

I like the idea about suede truckers or type 2, but I already have 3 denim jackets that needs wearing time already, or 5 if including non traditional denim jacket style.

so yeah, just a cross zip biker with epaulette and snaps all in, and dual zip but no laces , and I'm totally have all my jacket desire covered.
