Never have listened to any of his stuff, but I'm a big Bobby Bare fan.

Saw him open for The Reverand Horton Heat a number of years back. He was a nice regular guy and great live performer. He was billed as rockabilly, but I would call him more Alternative Country or Americana and a great alternative to most of the garbage called Country nowadays.

Let's not even get started on the garbage that passes for country music these days (or rock and roll for that matter). Thank God for online radio. Although I'm pretty f***in' pissed that the internet has killed all the independant record stores. Hell, I don't think there's even any of the big chains left where I live. Can't remember the last time I handed cash to an actual person for some music.

It's all warmed over pop/rock with hip-hop beats. I have to listen to that garbage all day long and it is FOUL. I hate it and cannot wait to get into my car and listen to some real music.

From what I hear, Bob didn't stay long enough, the streets aren't near as clean as they could be.
Was he cleaning trash or criminals? Oh same thing. :D

I have heard some of the new Country coming from the speakers of a coworkers radio.
Sounds like soft rock to me, or even pop music, but it isn't Country.
Because they have an accent, or fake one, that's Country?
Uh no...
I can sing, and hold a note pretty good, and I've often told my wife I need to jump on this bandwagon and record a song or two.
With the talent they have now, I don't need any special effects in the studio to sell records. ;)

Red Simpson -- Gas, Food And Lodging (1971)

The marker read "Gas, Food and Lodging"
"Four Miles Ahead, Exit 9"
I've been counting the breaks in the pavement
And run out of old highway signs
Thought I stop for a sandwich and coffee
And check on the price of a bed
The office and motel was run from the cafe
I remember the gas pumper said
The place was empty but for her at the counter
Saying six bucks for a shower and sleep
It's been a long old haul but she knew what I wanted
And got right to fixing my eats
I called her "Girl" and she called me "Mac"
And as that goes we just left it at that
And right after midnight she closed up the cafe
Saying, "You may not be back this way."
The lodging was good with the touch she added
Just right for my weary bones
And the comfort was mine till an hour past sunrise
When I moved out and headed for home
The marker read "Gas, Food and Lodging"
"Four Miles Ahead, Exit 9"
I doubt if I'll be back this way for a while
But her memory is still on my mind.
