Absolutely! What is unique about this thread IS (from my viewpoint)...that it offers various subjects that seems to allow us to get to know each other a little better...easier...and has remained 'friendly'. Anyone can always jump in ..or not. Of course other threads should remain more stictly on their certain topic out of consideration for those interests.

Right. Banter breaks out in nearly every thread I read, and not just by the Hollywood 10. If you don't want to read it, scroll past it. It doesn't require too much kinetic energy.

Don't apologize, Rue. If he's such a good "stepbacker and clamuper," he wouldn't have gone to the trouble to post that comment in what he considers the worst offending thread.

I don't ever want to offend anyone on the FL and if I am, then I apologize. That's just me :)

But you got such an early start today!

lol

As I was taking my daughter to school I thought about this....

No one knows this, but I constantly have people coming to me for help with problems here. Maybe because I'm so prominent.....I'm not sure. Anyway, when something is bothering them, I send them to the appropriate bartender to handle it. If it's a matter of them wanting to leave because they're mad or unhappy, then I do my best to talk them out of it. In that circumstance, I have only lost one member (out of about ten) that had already made up their mind. I have also gone out of my way when I see someone upset, to PM them to see if they are okay.
And no.... I will not give names.

I'm not saying this to toot my own horn, but I want whoever is upset with me, if they are, to realize that I actually do some good, even if it doesn't seem like it on the surface.

If you are old enough for a boyfriend, you are old enough for a passport!
Get one!
Heck - with the exchange rate these days, you can't afford to not take a trip south of the border!

I have one - I was just wondering where it was for when I run out the door Seattle bound! :p

The exchange rate is saddening for us Canucks at the moment. It's the first time in a long time we've been below parity with the USA.

You're a modern Eleanor Roosevelt, Rue! :)

The first time I was in Canada, I think the exchange rate was something like 1.35 Canadian to 1 US.
This close to parity stuff has been a killer! (My son just started grad school in Victoria, and so there will probably be a few more cross-border trips coming up)

I adore smoked salmon, or any other way its cooked :D My boyfriend and I made a whole pile of salmon sashimi one night, it was incredible! And as for mussels, I got hooked on those bad when I visited Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia with my parents as a kid. You don't find such good ones as far inland as Ontario, but they're from the East Coast, and they're lovely either way :)

For me, I think it is O.K. that Rue decided to say to someone, hey, sorry. It is just a part of having class and showing the well mannered being that she is. I am sorry too that anyone could have just off the wall, bombed into this thread that way, made uncalled for remarks and then bounced out. I am sure if my own "drive" in thought process was to investigate other people's thread responses and things of a variety of nature of what they post, I would sit and ponder millions of derogatory comments to make and try to have it appear they have committed a cardinal sin.

I have suffered some events like that towards me a time or two, and as polite and kind that I sincerely am as a person, decided that one does have to stand up for themselves. If what I partake upon offends anyone else, and I do not feel I deserve to be viewed as offending them, then for me, I can only suggest that person needs to evaluate their own activities and leave it there. I am positive a war could not produce a win against me, if such was the case. I just do not lay down and take it with no grease.

I'm not disputing that - In fact, I applaud her for it!

In my defense, I learned a long time ago that I can't make everyone happy, and I'm not going to try. Someone will always be upset by what I do, and that's fine - Just mind your own business and get off the soapbox. I keep my opinions to myself when I'm not asked, and I expect others to do the same.

Hi

I went to Banard's, and had a bowl of potato soup and a Barnstormer (roast beef, lettuce, onions, and pickles). I had the pepper grinder to put a new layer of pepper after every three or four spoonfuls. Banard's is a locally owned sandwich shop. VERY good.

C-Dot, I learned to eat Sushi in Huntsville AL. The sushi shop is in an old 1970's era gas station. We used to refer to it as "going out for Bait". I don't eat much sushi here in Kansas, too far from the ocean. I love smoked Salmon, spicy tuna rolls, and steamed mussels.

Later
I am not sure if this is a repeat or not, but if you endure the sushi then you deserve great notice and spotlight that you can participate in what I cannot, as it escapes my total interest to attempt to leap off high buildings, tame lions, or drive a car into a wall of fire. To the list of those that can, you go good Sir!

I'm not sure that is always possible,rue...and,to a few,any form of apology is unaccepable. I've been seriously threatened a couple times by PM in the past...but that was eventually taken care of. Those rare occassions just let you know who and what they really are in no uncertain terms. Then they become of little consequence...and nothing is left to be said.

Well said and I do agree for the most part.

I also agree with about 99.99 percent of the good things that are posted here. I just find it interesting that at times, as example, you could be saying that you desire to go to a store and purchase some jello for a dinner you are going to prepare and that you want the jello for desert, that some one would jump on you and state, "O.K. so you are going to murder your neighbor now"! You view the comment and just wonder what in God's name would have entered into anyone's mind to come up with something so...."off"?

Thanks... I try :)

What upsets me is that people want to take issue in the public eye. It's happened more than once on here. If someone is upset with me or anyone else it would be nice if they would send a PM.

On that note and getting off this subject..... I'll post the list again

I did not fix it, but sometimes it changes....... you can see it here: http://boardreader.com/site/The_Fedora_Lounge_15000.html

I also think my post count is going to go down considerably starting today....
Rue, you said you did not "fix" it...is there some bookie you know that could? (weeeeee....hahahahaha)!

I can tell you that I had one rather sad event that I just did my best to give some personal information to someone that was at odds with me on a issue, to just have some attempt to allow and afford that person knowledge that I am a business person and really, I hate to slap myself on the back, I am doing very well, the banks love me. My point is, that I am so very sure the entire thing has healed, no problems, I actually know if I were to meet that person face to face, we would have a blast together and no ill was harbored and it is all good (as far as I know) at this time.

A typical observation you would see about me towards other people....in a store (buying food items) if I see someone spraying the veggie section with water, you know they do that at times to keep things fresh as possible, I will walk right up to them and with a really big smile, ask them, "I see you are still trying to teach the tomato's how to swim"! If I see a really older person that is having a problem pushing the cart, I will ask them if they have no one to aide them in the store and if they say no, I will volunteer my help.

Now after leaving the store, if I have nothing that needs to be placed into the fridge, I head to the Casino, and enjoy my interactions there with being happy and sharing that with anyone I can.

Life is so good and beautiful, I just do not see any point to not enjoying what I can and to even for one moment give a bit of wit, or charm, to help spread some goodness.

I have no idea what a curmudgeon like Grumpus Emeritus is doing here
Nor do I. He adds absolutely nothing to this forum and then seeks to silence a valued member. It could be jealousy but who knows......there are lots of bitter people out there who hate to see other people enjoying themselves.

I certainly hope that rue pays this person no mind and continues her participation in the same manner that we all enjoy.

That is so perfectly stated.

I have pondered a few times about you, Sir, as a person? I find myself thinking you may have been into a level of education perhaps a graduate of the Dale Carnigie School, or have some other rather wonderful educational backgrounds? You spotlight a deep intellect.

I bet if LMH2 took the plunge and tried some sushi like I did in spite of the idea of it grossing me(him) out, he might really enjoy it. Finding the right roll and dipping sauce to go with it is essential.

As for the other topic: Well, personal attacks on the web aren't about anything at the end of the day. They're not Rambo. Toe to toe I know those *upright citizens* wouldn't act the way they do on the interwebs so it is what it is.

I'm curious how many non-sushi-eaters like medium rare or rarer steak?

A good starter for getting acclimated to sushi-eating is some lightly-seared (sushi-quality) tuna. :hungry:
