I also got in the mail today from a friend of mine overseas a tote made from tarot cards coated in plastic and sewn together (incorporates all the major arcana) with a bag for my cards. (Sort of like the Kool-Aid totes that were poplar). It's ugly, but it's also pretty neat.

that bag sounds so cool!

i'm another who would never spend $100 on a bag. i got my timbuk2 bag at 30% off the regular price of $80 with my friend's REI employee discount, but that's not really a purse. i think i bought a corde purse once for $20, and that is my most expensive purse!

I'll buy the $100 a pop purses, but then I'll carry them for forever and a day.

That said, my mom bought a ton of purses off my sister (everything from Wal-Mart brands to Coach) and gave me about 20 of them. So I'm set on leather types for a while.

The tarot tote sounds neat...what deck is it made from?

I guess I can't carry around black patent leather all summer... so I'm trading in for red patent leather:

This is my every day handbag:

It's black patent and I would guess it's 60s. It's big enough to carry all my usual crap PLUS an SLR camera - no mean feat for a handbag!

I love giant handbags. I'm always on the lookout for them.

This is the bag I generally carry every day, though I do switch around occasionally to match my outfit.

It's leather and I got it from a Charity Shop for £1.50! It just about fits everything in. I have a smaller navy leather bag and a black frame handbag that I regularly switch to.

I used to carry a Lulu Guinness Tote on days when I needed a huge bag, but I broke the strap by putting too much in it and have yet to get around to fixing it!

I refuse to buy cheap bags so as a result I only own 2 bags. One of them is black leather with a silver chain handle that I got on sale at Macy's, which worked out well for my punk/rock and roll styled days, and the other one is my mom's old Coach bag that she gave me from the 90s.

Sadly my everyday bag is a plastic grocery tote that my dad gave me (not very stylish, I know, but for having to bring your gear to the dojo it really helps) and have recently upgraded to this scalloped leather tote bag:

I've never been fond of any of the brand name bags (LV, Gucci, etc) since in our Chinatown (I live in NYC) I see many fake bags being sold with those labels. If I had the extra cash though I'd probably get a Longchamp tote bag. I don't think that brand is that popular here yet and the craftsmanship is very good.

I walk to work most days, so i need a big bag that is functional and practical as I also tend to nip in the charity and junk shops in my lunch hour and don't want to be carting loads of bags around, so i use a wicker basket in the summer or an old carpet bag which doubles up as an overnight bag or a battered old Louis Vuitton holdall a friend gave me. Wish i could be one of those ladies with a little dainty handbag but i just can't seem to do it!

I know what you mean! My handbag on a normal day contains: purse, makeup purse, 2 sets of keys, umbrella, book, chequebook, hairbrush, handsanitiser, packet of tissues, cigarette case (contains pantyliners) and a folding shopping bag and that just will not fit in a dainty purse!

I wish I could find a vintage handbag as large as yours, Miss Hannah! I currently carry a miniature version of yours but cheat by having a tote bag of 'necessities' in my car.

The Brown Menace

This is my daily bag. It's big, it's brown, it's decidedly un-vintage.
But it fits all my junk. And it's from target so it was cheap.

I fought against it for years but I've finally turned into my mother. Purse-wise :)

I'm lusting after one of these, a bigger bag that isn't the black hole of Calcutta with miscellaneous debris floating round the bottom. I need a bag that I can find everything in. Being diabetic I need to carry a glucose meter and spare stuff on top of all the usual girly/mum/working woman stuff.

Those bags look perfect for me! I must investigate further. The handbag hooks are a great idea too. Thanks for sharing the link :)

No worries :D I found them when I jokingly googled "the perfect handbag" and that's what popped up. I swear I should get a commission from them the amount of people I've put onto them.

I've been looking at their bags this week too! I'm very tempted by one of the 11" ones, any bigger and I'll just carry around too much stuff that I don't need!

I'm thinking of getting a gas mask bag for use as my everyday bag. I know that is probably *wrong* in some way but I'm not sure...

what I really need is a 40's ish bag that is big enough for me to cart my knitting about in. Any ideas?

I often need to carry A4 papers, so 11" just isn't quite big enough.

I've sent the link to my mum; it's my birthday soon, so we'll see if she plays along!

What I really need is a Giant Leather (or otherwise durable) Suitcase/holdall type bag, that still looks vaguely vintage.

My parents are divorced which means Wednesday night I have to 'pack' all my schoolthings, any other clothes I may need, All my beauty and hair equipment and carry anything like my art/photography portfolios (A2 sized), So i really need a hardcore bag that will keep all my junk secure and findable whilst breaking my back lugging it around school the next day.

Any ideas that won't cost me the world?
xx

Hi Annie, How about a gladstone bag or a carpet bag, i have a carpet bag which i bought on ebay, repro, and its shell is quite rigid leather so you could pack papers etc on one side to stop them from getting squashed, leaving room to pack all your other stuff. My mum also makes me lots of cute cloth bags which i use alot if i go away straight from work or whatever, not just for shoes, but for seperating my work junk,kid/dog junk, from overnight stuff, because otherwise i would be scrabbling about until hell froze over, i'm so disorganised! Hope that might be a small help! x
