Hi folks,

I still get quite a lot of PMs concerning my Goatskin Cheyenne that Aero made for me about two years ago. Most people ask for additional pictures or measurements. So I guess many people fancy (Aero's) longer fitting and vintage styled jackets.
Well, I do! So I thought why not open a thread that mainly concentrates on Aero's "Big Three" (as Bobjones called them) and all other longer fitting 1930s/40s styled buttoned jackets. All brands are welcome!
Please bear in mind that this thread is intended to have some sort of reference character for fellow forumers looking for general information and of course good pictures. So please keep it more less on topic and post as many pictures as you like!

Here's mine. Still wonderful and rock solid!

Specs:
+ Size 38 Cheyenne (fits like size 40) in seal veg tanned goatskin. The goatskin used for this jacket is incredibly thick, stiff, and heavy. In fact it's as heavy as FQHH.
+ Cheyenne pattern shortened by 1 inch and slightly waisted. 1 inch added to the sleeves
+ Stockman patch pockets with scalloped pocket flaps.
+ No handwarmer pockets.
+ Cotton drill lining with a full rayon overlay for ease of wear. (A single layer of rayon wouldn't be durable enough for such a heavy jacket).
+ One vertical inside pocket in the facing.
+ Curved Highwayman yoke.
+ Two piece back instead of a three piece construction. The lower back panel is made from ONE piece of goat which I think is almost incredible

My order:

+ Custom 38 Cheyenne in seal veg tanned goatskin.
+ 1-2" shortened length from cheyenne pattern
+ 25.5" sleeves
+ Really warm and thick darkbrown alpaca lining.
+ Wine sateen over alpaca lining for the sleeves
+ Fit should be trim, normal wear will be with just a t-shirt, but will use sweater some months.
+ Stockman patch pockets with scalloped pocket flaps. (sligthly more scalloped then standard)
+ No handwarmer pockets.
+ Vertical left inside pocket in the facing with press button closure
+ Curved Highwayman yoke.
+ 3-piece back
+ Engineered storm cuffs

Right out of the box:

And after wearing for a winter and fall.
(bad pic i know but its dark out now)

Notice the creases on the arms. They are fat because of the alpaca in the arms.
This is all wear that shows for now, along with cellphone bulk and pocket flaps.
Color is like new except on the inside
of the collar:

More pics:

Notice the toy goat. Is it put there deliberately by me? Who knows.

The skin is of a fantastic thickness:

Aero Cheyenne in vintage brown FQHH

Here's my Cheyenne in vintage brown FQHH. First two pics are out the box. Third and fourth pic are after 6 months wear. All the details, including modifications, coat measurements and my measurements can be found at this thread.

Suggestions (I am not hijacking your thread)

Brilliant idea for a thread Jan Solo :eusa_clap

I think it would be a good idea if:
  • Pics, pics and more pics (natural light, being worn even better)
  • State facts and specs only
  • Minimal quoting (I'd prefer no quoting whatsoever, possibly too harsh though)
  • Definitely no quoting containing pics
  • No humour (leads to competitive, screen upon screen of joking)
  • No off-topic discussion

I'm guilty of all the above. However, without such distractions this thread could be a very useful resource. I might get shot down for even suggesting these things. After all, it's not even my thread! So many great threads are quickly diluted.

Enough... back to the topic...

Here's a few amateurish pics of my Schott 740N Brown Leather Peacoat (just snapped with my Blackberry). It's a great jacket, nice thick hide, thicker than the FQHH on my Aero HG-5. Size 40, these run about a size large.

Sorry the pics are links to flickr, I don't know how to get them to post as images here. If someone could pm me with directions on how to do that it would be greatly appreciated! Otherwise, please follow the links and enjoy!

Great idea Lear! I couldn't agree more.
The only buttoned leather jacket I've had was the Schott 650.
The quality of the leather was overall good, though it didn't have the distinguished leather smell... More a light oily smell.
Lining and stitching was good, but all the buttons fell off. I replaced them by using Butto-Fix metal fasteners.
About sizing: Normally I wear a size 42 jackets and suits. The Schott 650 was an XL and fitted me just right. When wearing a large sweater it almost was too small...
If I ever would buy another leather buttoned jacket I would go for the Barnstormer.

My Cheyenne

Another one inspired by JanSolo's goat wonderjacket.

- Aero Cheyenne size 42
- mid-weight Seal "Jerky" A2-Horsehide
- Lochcarron Reiver "Scotland Forever" Tartan lining over an Alpacca Wool lining
- green (B10 outer shell) gabardine lining for the sleeves
- plain, two piece back (instead of standard three-piece)
- curved yoke (like on the Highwayman)
- slighty bigger collar
- OD green contrast stitching
- throat latch with push-button closure
- No handwarmer pockets
- No storm cuffs
- slightly bigger outside pockets
- scalloped pocket flaps
- hidden press buttons on the pockets (A-2 style)
- outside pockets lined with Corduroy
- two vertical inside pockets in the facings with press button closure
- button closure on the cuffs like on the Cossack
- Name Tag on the inside
