You kid right?

Aren't you a Dane? Bad Dane, bad Dane! That's a bit like saying 'Who's King Arthur?' lol

Oh, and I loved the trilogy and the Hobbit, but not the movie format. It's o.k.

"blinged out chav" - brilliant, GOK!

Which Beowulf? The Zemeckis/Gaiman project?

Or the already released Gunnarson version? I heard great things about the costuming, but horrible things about the script in this version

Seriously? Wow! Beowulf is a Geat who travels to Denmark to defeat Grendel - the monster that has been terrorising Hroðgar's (the king of the Danes) people. He does a lot more besides (such as eventually becoming king himself) but slaying Grendel and his mother are his most famous adventures.

There is only one copy of the poem and that is in the British Museum but you can read a translation of it here:

ETA: you beat me to the post, Griff!

Beowulf

After googlin' around for some time, I understood that everytime an english writer wants a "crazy/out of control person as a hero, they choose to say he's danish!
lol lol lol
That goes for Shakespear's Hamlet - the socalled Prince of Denmark and this type Beowulf.

We must have made quite an impression in England during the viking age!;)

Aaahhh but Beowulf was a Geat and they were from what is now Sweden! :p

I have several Danish chums - they're all lovely...but completely bonkers! Must be all that mead!

(BTW - I did Dark Age/Viking re-enactment and living history for around 16 years, so do actually know a thing or two about you lot! Hehehe!)

naw, we say he's a jelly donut.

"Hey, you know, he's Ameerican. It's slang. He's a jelly freakin' donut!"

Now, what GOK is saying is that Beowulf was a gReat Dane...

A movie about a swedish dog, disguised as a great dane, who goes to Denmark in order to fight somebody and this somebodys mother. Written by an englishman.
Sounds interesting.:p

Oh, that'd be it then - not because some idiot (and shallow) human thought they'd try to improve on the hound's natural good looks then? lol

OTOH, he could be disguised as a Romulan or Vulcan - he does look a bit like Spock!

On a serious note. Cutting ears and tails on dogs have been forbitten for quite some time in Denmark. But if you want a dog with another look, you can just go to Germany and buy it.
I too find it very strange - and sometimes brutal - what people do to animals, just to make them look special. Even in breeding as well.
In order to make the dog heavier, bigger, longer, more and more flatnosed etc.etc. Goes for cats as well. A neighbour bought a very expensive persian cat - with a very flat nose. Two month later they had to put the cat down, because it could not breathe normally!
Well, I guesse this is totally :eek:fftopic: but worth discussing anyway.

They don't read Beowulf in Denmark? Lucky country! As an ex-literature major, I'm quite fed up with attributing thisorthat metaphor to a giant hunking Geat who can tear arms off.

Didn't like Lord of the Rings. Didn't like Harry Potter.
But I own Star Wars on VHS three times over.

I read so many fantasy books as a child, I really wish they'd give one of those series a shot at cinema instead of some child-non-prodigy ripoff. Those others books were terrible, too, but at least I'd enjoy 'em.
