Ray Bradbury, in Martian Chronicles has a chapter in which we meet a genious who has lived, allegedly, with his wife and daughter on Mars for years. When he dies, a visitor realizes that the wife and daughter haven't aged -- he had gotten older but they didn't. A visit to the graveyard reveals his family died years earlier and he was so lonely that he created robots that looked and reacted just like them.

I was involved in a theatrical production when I was in college, Karel Capek's R.U.R. (for Rossum's Universal Robots). One of those stories where robots are created by humans and then take over. It was written back in 1921. I believe Capek was the man who first used the word "robot." At the end of the story there is a couple you perceive are going to be the robot's Adam and Eve.
