Emergency Rain Jacket?

Went out today in Tokyo to get a book for my wife. Left my umbrella at the hotel as it was not raining then. Big mistake! The good news is that my Cockpit CWU-55P shed water like a duck's back. Perhaps any satin / nylon jacket would do the same, but I was impressed at how the rain drops just "beaded up" and rolled off my jacket.

Makes a good rain coat in a pinch...and for those times you leave your umbrella at the hotel!

I can wear any kind of jacket, even if it rains.
When I wear a leather jacket and there's a likelihood of rain, I carry a light weight rain coat to put over my jacket. Especially if I wear a "hair on hide" jacket.
I prefer this instead of umbrella as it doesn't keep my hands busy.

Best leather jacket I've ever had in the rain was a LW HH A-2. The super-thick, chrome tanned horsehide kept me totally dry, even in torrential rainstorms.

Kept you dry, but how did the jacket fare later on?

The jacket actually looks even better then before (and absolutely no shrinkage!). The grain really "pops" after a wetting-down, and I've never been one to do any kind of hot-water treatment (I prefer to break in a jacket just by wearing it in all sorts of weather). A good rain storm will work wonders on a LW hide. :D
