Stumbled acoross this pic while surfing the net.....Elvis Presley, 1957. Would you consider the jacket he's wearing to be a "Classic Hollywood"?

Whatever it is, looks extremely cool to me!

He looks great, though I don't know that I would look as well in the same jacket. Hell, Elvis made those Liberace jumpsuits he wore in the Vegas years look great!

"Hollywood" jackets- a misnomer?

I know there are some that are "Styled in Hollywood" or made in Hollywood,
but I think they were originally called "Leisure" jackets. This term got a horrible reputation in the 70's with the disco-poly-fabulous Leisure Suits.
Am I wrong in this belief?

Not exactly wrong, but backwards.

As you know, the '70s leisure jackets (and suits) were styled after the 'Hollywood' jackets (and suits) of the 1930s-'50s. The terms "leisure jacket" and "leisure suit" were first widely used in the late 1960s, and were applied specifically to the creations of that time.

For those who don't know: the main difference between the two jackets is that the '30s-'50s originals were made of wool, suede and/or gabardine, whereas the '70s revivals were almost always made of double-knit nylon/acrylic "wash n' wear" polyester. Also, the '70s jackets tended to have wider stitching, rougher textures, and chunkier plastic buttons.

I'm just as impressed with the woman he's wearing.

I'm pretty sure that's Judy Tyler. She was his costar in Jailhouse Rock. She was the original human Princess Summer Fall Winter Spring (the original original was a marionette) on the old Howdy Doody TV show. They were a very serious item, but then she was killed in a car accident at the age of 23. TV was still considered so declasse in the early 50's that she didn't even put the Howdy Doody gig on her resume.

She's gorgeous.

That is a classic Hollywood jacket, all right. In the colourised version of Jailhouse Rock, It's mint green and black. Whether or not that's accurate is anybody's guess, but it does look wild.

Ricardo's

That particular jacket that Elvis is wearing is often referred to in some collector circles as a Ricardo or a belted Hollywood.
The brands of those jackets differed , but the one that Elvis wore in particular in that photograph is an Eaton Hall.
Mint green gabardine with velveteen dark panels is correct . The belts were two toned and either buttoned on or looped through the back.

Big ticket item.
