ELS jackets has the hand warmer pockets hidden in the design details, which is super brilliant.

The Twist jacket as an example. I didn’t know until when I accidentally slipped my hand into the pockets to realize that they’re there.

The new design of that jacket has the pocket opening kinda hidden, sadly it’s also zippered, completely vertical and looks like a tight opening, not a dealbreaker but I likely wouldn’t use them like that other than for storing small items

Giving this a bump since I’m also very interested in this jacket and would be great to see some fit pics of yours.

Also interested if you know if it’s veg tanned calfskin and has the color changed at all since you got it, also approximately how thick is it and how’s the lining and pocket size?

Coincidently, I was thinking the perfect highway would be one with a new style collar, front zipper (ideally a 2-way zip) and old style hand warmer pockets, sadly I guess this would require ordering custom even though I’m fine with standard sizing measurements, I’d still like to see a pic of a new style highway in camel, maybe it’ll change my mind but I was hoping to still catch one of those transitional ones like this one he posted less than 3 months ago which is likely yours lol

Hey!

Yup that’s my jacket, I’m pretty sure. It was also featured in his las Insta post: https://www.instagram.com/p/DAIHamyTcty/?igsh=MWcxdHNlYXI4YnN0eA==

I didn’t ask for details about the leather, I only know it’s calfskin although I know he’s used similarly coloured horse in the past but don’t know if it’s available. I have to say, I don’t inspect every stitch or anything like that, I’m not the most nitpicky.

I loved the jacket when I got it, but couldn’t get out of my mind that it was a bit longer than I wanted. That’s on me though I sent pics of me wearing an Addict AD-01 and an Aero Premier Highwayman and asked for a length in between those two, and that’s exactly what I got. I emailed him asking if alterations were possible and he said yes, but that the work wouldn’t be done until end of September (I didn’t mind, I’ve only been able to wear a leather jacket 3 days so far), so I sent it back. Well, last Friday (October the 4th) I got a pic of my jacket finished (he’s been super precise about his estimations both times) and he’s shipped it.

Jacket is expected to arrive on Friday, so I’m hoping next week I’ll be able to post some fit pics.

As for the design, I think he doesn’t charge extra as long as it’s the original design (or a mix of both variations, like in my case as the collar is the new one and the rest is the old design). He does charge extra for pattern/cut changes like body or sleeve length. I’m pretty sure it’s a one man shop and jackets are MTO so he usually doesn’t have stock laying around unless (I imagine) some customer backs out.

Jacket wasn’t cheap but I loved it the little time I had it and I’m sure I’ll love it even more now that’s a bit shorter.

Long overdue pics of my ELS.

Sorry for the bad quality of the pictures, sadly days are short now and by the time I get to put on my jackets and go out (I work from home in my pyjamas) it’s already dark so artificial light was needed.

Much better pics (but non-fit ones) of my jacket can be found in ELS Insta:

I love it, by far my most special jacket. Much better pattern than the Aero I got right before this jacket (custom Premier Highwayman, which I also love), leather is much more pliable which might be a factor but it just “sits right” compared to that one. I wish the sleeves were a tad slimmer.

Initially it came out a bit longer than I wanted (I like short jackets) so he chopped off an extra 3cms/1.25 inches.

Leather as I say is pliable, much more than the Badalassi in my Aero, it’s calfskin. I don’t go through every stitch but couldn’t see anything out of place.

It wasn’t cheap but there’s a lot of stitching involved:

Does that mean that they wear longer than the measurements suggest, or did you make a mistake when you specd the jacket?

They look great as-is imo.

How much are they? On his blog it says 180k JPY which is about €1100, which is very reasonable for a jacket like this I'd say. But it looks like his blog hasn't been updated for a couple of years.

Initial jacket was 100% to my spec: I sent fit pics of my Aero and my Addict AD-01 and asked for something that was in between those two in terms of length, and that’s what I got. But upon receiving it I realised I would’ve prefered something closer to the Aero for this style.

There’s a surcharge for sleeve and body length modifications, total was 218k yen.

I emailed years ago and they told me a size 44” would cost me $3300 and I’d need to fly to Japan for a fitting. I love these jackets. They seemed reluctant to do larger sizes at the time but perhaps that’s changed.

This is a size 40, in their size chart they go up to 42.

That looks great on you, I think the sleeves will sit nicer once you wear it in a bit more.

Just to confirm, this one has the new smaller collar, correct?
Also, how big are the pockets and does it have inner pocket(s)?

I’m glad I waited to see your fit pics, should post one of the back when you get a chance.

Correct, I was only aware of the older model with the bigger, very 70s collar and when I placed the order I was told there was a newer version of this model (Highway) with a newer collar design, pockets (zippered) and with buttons instead of a zipper.

Actually I wanted the original design but wasn’t clear enough in my messages (I double checked) and got the older design with the new collar. And I’m glad I did as the collar is already plenty big, in the older design it’s close to the shoulder seam in some pics lol.
