ELC Capeskin A1 44

The first impression is that this a very light jacket, almost weightless in fact. I would estimate that the leather is around 1 mm. thick. It feels slightly clingy and stretchy because of the unique way it drapes to the body, quite unlike the GW version which is also Cape. I think JC's leather must come from more mature animals as this feels like lamb skin rather than sheared sheep leather. The leather surface seems grain less on first sight, but it is there, it's just very subtle and perfectly complimented by the horn buttons It looks similar to Aero's oil pull in colour and iridescence.
The tailoring is amazing in it's neatness and accuracy. I can't see any wobbly seams anywhere on the minute stitch lines. The button holes are the neatest I have ever seen. I like the lining ,it's a soft shiny light cotton.
The cuffs are rather tight and I must take care when taking off the jacket as I don't want to stretch the knits. The collar is also snug, but not restrictive.
It's a beautifully made stylish and comfortable jacket.
Highly recommended. 10 out of 10

This should be a warm comfortable jacket for Spring and Autumn

Nice! Enjoy John,
And how about the pocket flaps, almost what I would call dainty (in a good way). When I first got mine I thought, "oh boy, I'm going to need to be careful with this one!" It was so light I assumed the shipping box was empty.
As I've worn it, I've accidentally put it through some abuse that I was sure would damage the light weight capeskin. Not so. In fact one close encounter I thought might open it up, resulted in hardly a scuff. Very elegant, but tough.

Funny thing, I am selling mine cuz I don't like the lighter color capeskin. Now, all this because I just bought another A-1 (Size 38) in a darker cape that was listed on ELC's sale page. The cape appears to be rougher with more character and darker. I have mine for sale on the sale page if you're interested.

Hey Steve, when you get it would you post a photo or two? I'd like to see what this cape looks like. Boy, they went fast!

I will get some pics up of the jacket when it gets here. Looks like this is a little grainier than the ones he has for sale normally, also a bit darker more a seal than russet. I prefer a darker color to the seal anyway.

Regarding the comments about the A1 being lighter than a typical A2, does this mean it is more comfortable to wear in hot weather?

Yes, much so...Mine feels like a leather shirt, very form fitting. It weighs almost nothing and feels great. I would call it a 3 season jacket.

Interesting.... I'm a lnog way off getting that far down my 'wants list,' but it's worth knowing that there's a flight jacket model light enough for Summer wear but that is reasonably tough.... I've considered a lambskin in the past, but given that I tend to be fairly rough on my leathers, I'd be scared of it being too fragile. That ELC A1 sounds worth checking out from that pov. I do miss my leathers in warmer weather!

The colour is not russet. It's similar to plain chocolate with a slight red hue, But no where near seal brown.

Now that you mention it, maybe russet is not a good color description. You may be better in your description.

This is the one I just picked up from Eastman on their sale page.. More a seal. Like this color better.
