Ebay seller's regret?

Have you ladies ever sold something on Ebay and then totally regretted it, for whatever reason? I had this great dress listed on Ebay that just ended and it only sold for $9.50. I paid $45 for it and it didn't fit. Hoo boy am I just kicking myself. I don't want to let it go for that and I should have just run it as a BIN but I figured that just before VLV, I'd at least get half of what I paid for it. That'll teach me, I guess. [huh]

I'm sad when I think something is a "sure" sell, and then only goes for a little more than opening bid. BOOO!

Lately, I've noticed a huge drop in the number of hits on my auctions though, and my page hit report is way, way, way low (like half the hits compared to this time last year).

The stinky best match rolled out at the end of March so I think I'll wait until I see things pick up again before I put things at auction.

I would have rather GIVEN it to one of our lovely ladies than bothering to sell it at that price.

Kitty - you have some great dresses that you have put up. Unfortunately for me -I'm just too big right now! (Working on it though). I have refrained from selling any items thusfar because of this fear - the seller's regret. I have to come to terms with the fact that I will probably not get what I spend out of items - I just should clean house since I have a lot of items that don't fit. I vary 2-3 sizes throughout a given year though. I always think - perhaps someday.

I guess as I approach the idea of selling I keep telling myslef - set a reserve and live with my choice. I hope that works.

I think the BIN is key. A lot of buyers, including myself, won't even bid on something if it has a reserve. At least with BIN you know exactly what the seller wants for that item!

I was interested but and wanted to buy it on ebay and missed the auction. That was a fab dress for what it sold for. If they back out let me know I would love to have it!

aw man, what a shame, kitty! if there was any hope that i could've worn that dress someday, i would have bid on it. i reread the measurements about 18 times hoping they would change

i avoid selling on ebay at all costs. i've been selling lots of stuff on here and to local people for less than what i could probably get for it on ebay. and i just gave a flawless 2-piece playsuit to a good friend on a mere understanding that she would trade me something really incredible for it. it means more to me to see her enjoy it than the $15 or $150 it would bring in on ebay!

that said... i really love my $15 40s spectator pumps i bought on ebay when no one else bid.

Just look at it as ebay owes you one and one day all the fates will align and you'll see a dress for 9 bucks that's clearly worth 50 with zero bids and 2 minutes left and then you snag it.

What i want to know is why when you find something you like 200 people bid on it and it goes for a sky high price, BUT when you sell something that is great (or something you paid too much for on Ebay and it doesnt even fit ) no one even bids and you get 9.99 for it ????????????

oh, i know! luckily there was a reserve set on it, but a friend tried to sell a WWII-era yellow jumper with brown velvet trim for me.... and it got a single bid. what gives???

I've been selling a lot of modern stuff on the Swedish equivalent of Ebay lately (to be able to buy more vintage stuff of course! ) And even if I don't like the item or can fit into it anymore and it's modern I still hate it when things go for really cheap...

kinda, the things I've sold are mainly mod style / 80's but a couple of them are simply lovely things that just don't fit. There doesn't seem to be a lot of action on eBay lately, I'm not sure whats happened!

Ebay raised their fees and there was a [selling and buying] boycott the week the raise went into effect. A group of vintage sellers moved business elsewhere or have stopped listing while considering where to move their business.

This may or may not have something to do with it, but that's my guess.

I know way too many people that in the past few months have been laid off with no notice who had seemingly great stable jobs. Sometimes I still break and spend - but definitely trying to stick to a budget. A year ago I wouldn't have thought twice about upping my bids.

Oh so many things...

High waisted trousers, a 40's suit, a couple of 50's swing coats, a ton of 50's full skirts. Mostly stuff that i thought I would never wear in public because I was living down in Devon and would get heckled! I had a brutal clear out before I moved to London as well. Since moving here I have no fear of wearing anything - they've seen it all before here!

It is the sucky economy

As a buyer, i can hardly afford anything anymore. But on the other hand, the prices are a lot lower when I do splurge.
And I also agree you should do BIN and not Reserve, I never bid on anything with a reserve as it is so annoying, and usually a waste of time. Either start the bidding at your bottom price or put a reasonable BIN, and you'll probably get more bids.
I have a lot of stuff I would like to sell that is high end but if it is as bad as all that, I think I will just list it in the Lounge instead! I would rather see it on you lovely ladies anyway.
