That is indeed Tom if you are referring to my avatar. Since you are the 100th person to identify Tom, you win $100!!! (disclaimer: you can collect this on March 5, 2010 at 6am on the corner of 9th and Hennepin, but only if it's raining.)

What a strange reversal, that the 7 5/8 100 went for under 300, but a 7 1/4 100 went over 400. link

Even a good size Whippet barely got over 200. link

Shipping to US only.. I wrote the seller, if he could make an exception, didn't even had the decency to reply, i can't stand that.. Why would an ebay-seller not ship outside the US? I hope a fellow-lounger won the hat, it's a beauty..

Close, but not quite there. There should be a .jpg associated with the link for the full file name of the photo.

I'd wager that in some instances it's fear and ignorance. Most Americans have never had a need to ship something outside of the US. They've heard of Customs, and think they'll have to fill out all kinds of forms, it'll be a big hassle, that sort of thing. Just a guess, though.

I know that some won't ship outside of the US because they've been burned doing so in the past by either the buyer or the country's Customs. When I was in the USAF there were certain countries we knew not to use regular mail when shipping because the chances were good it wouldn't arrive. Of course, there are those who won't ship to the US because they've been burned in the past as well.

Regards,
Tom

Bingo. It's not a fear - it's based on actual experience. Time spent at the border is unpredictable, and the buyer's willingness to wait is also unpredictable. If the buyer gets upset, all they have to do is file a dispute to tie up your Paypal funds equal to the value of the item, until the dispute is resolved. Having said all this, 99% of the time I had an international request to bid, it was a lounger, so I removed the unenforceable restriction from my auctions.

Those stains all over the felt must have scared a few off that Boss. Decent price for that one even with the necessary cleaning.

I will buy as many as you will sell me at that price, in that condition.

I agree, and wonder why it was so low, what with Stetson Royal Deluxe models recently selling around $250 and Whippets north of $400...

The ones you mention are generally in great condition, and still a good deal when you consider that felt quality can't be bought off the shelf today.

Wow - small size, later vintage, high price. I guess color and box go a long way.

if this Barclay cleans up, someone really got a nice hat and box. Even if it doesn't, it was cheap.

nice postcard
