Last night this wonderful Adam Hats sign failed to sell (didn't hit it's reserve)
I was tempted, but the shipping costs would have been extortionate!

Man, I wonder what the reserve could have been?

Nice sign, but I don't know anything about vintage sign values. I wouldn't mind something like that, but not at that price. Wonder if the seller will relist at a lower reserve?

Regards,
Tom

I've seen a flat wall mounted one of these of about the same size go for about $600, so there must be a market!

Gee Tom, are you saying you accidentally won a Stetson Twenty-Five, not knowing what it was ?!? I think that one is from the late '50s.

The odd liner threw me as I didn't recall seeing one like it previously... and I didn't bother doing a search here to see if any others were posted. Just took a chance! :D Hopefully Steve will like it. (Unless I really like it, in which case I'll be looking for one for him again. It wouldn't be the first time I started over!lol lol)

Cheers,
Tom

Sometimes you know you are defeated before you start the battle <--Referring only to eBay auctions of course...

I figured you would get this one Scott and decided to let you have it without much of a fight. :p ;)

Ditto. I love the old Stetsons, but I figure you're going to get most of them.

I promise not to keep being a hog. I've gotten carried away with researching these pre-40 Stetsons, and getting a variety of good examples for my website. Once it's up and running, I'll add a link for 'available hats', so that I can offer some of these back to loungers after I've photographed and documented them. I've found that the only way to really learn what you need to about old items like these, is to study lots of examples.

I had a Stetson with a liner like that, and my guess was late '50s/early '60s - I'm thinking jtl could give you a closer date on it.

That was one of my first hats, though I suppose I didn't really have it all that long. Brents aren't great quality, this one had shrunk a little bit and didn't fit quite right so I traded up. It's hard to read, but the model name on that hat is the "Airlite" I've owned four Brents, this one, a green stingy, an "adventurer" and a stratoliner clone. Across the board they've all had good trimming and interesting design with pretty low quality felt. The felt on the adventurer has worked a great big hole in the crown from very minor wear in my rotation. The green '60s one tapered in the rain. The stratoliner clone's brim break was all but gone and took a lot of work to get looking like a fedora again. I'm fairly sure you're right about them being made by Lee. My brent adventurer looks identical to a Lee "Adventure". Hats made by Lee and put out under the Lee brand which I have owned or handled seem to be of much higher quality, whereas the store brand Lees appear to have been built down to a price.

Thanks DM - nice looking guitar by the way.

I just can't recall which retail chain the Brents were made for. I'm sure you're right about them being made down to a price, but this price looked ok, so I picked it up.

Don't get me wrong Scott, I'm not complaining, in fact you have my favorite collection of anyone on the Lounge. If I would get my act together and start making room for some more hats, I would definitely be the owner of a few you have won recently. I am just glad that you are putting together all of the information you collect. :)

I am the one who sold the Brent on the Bay tonight. I purchased it from Dinerman and it may have shrunk far too much for Dinerman but not enough for my small melon. It is actually a 7 1/4 and I ware a 7 1/8 and I didn't want to part with it :( but I needed to make some room for a new acquisition.:D As far as interest goes I thought that there would be more since I had 14 watchers on the auction. As I have learned many watchers does not always mean the item will sell. Now the hat is off to the land of OZ.

Ephraim Tutt it is a spot on 7 1/4 or 58 cm I have a 7 1/4 band block which fit right in to the Brent hat. The band block is exactly 58 cm. The part about shrinking that I was referring to the comment that Dinerman made about the hat. "Brents aren't great quality, this one had shrunk and didn't fit quite right (see the wrinkle in the sweatband) so I traded up" It may have not fit quite right for Dinerman due to a little shrinkage and it didn't fit my head at all. Enjoy, it is a great hat!:D

Yeah, but you still owe me about $800 in 'runner-up' fees from back when you were TRYING to own a few I now have lol

...just kidding...please back away from those hats...

But, seriously - I wouldn't be doing this if I wasn't getting some positive feedback from you, Bill and a few others on the lounge. It really makes my day to hear someone like you express how happy they are over a hat from the 1920's that all but a few would be afraid to wear in public...even though they are super-cool hats. Luckily, I live in a city where any fashion statement, no matter how odd everywhere else, is appreciated by most.
