GranadaGuy, you are a chivalrous gentleman indeed. Sorry to hear you got 'talked' out of that book. All things for some reason they say but, dang, you have a right to be disappointed.

I gave up drinking so make yours a double and you'll have me covered too.

Thanks Gene, First time, in over 1.5 years that I am tempted to drink...a books a book, but thats the Vintage mans BIBLE!!!

And I missed it....because the ******* nosey neighbor kept going on and on about her granddaughter....I need a drink.

I feel your pain ... but why on earth didn't you use a preprogrammable snipe bid service, such as www.auctionsniper.com ? [huh]

That is the lowest price I've ever seen for an Esquire's Encyclopedia of 20th Century Men's Fashion.

If the seller had put the word "vintage" in the heading that listing would have been found and would have gone three-figures.

Ah, but the seller did put the word "vintage" in the auction's description. That would have been enough for anyone doing a title AND description search. (Don't most of us do this? Maybe not. [huh] )

Every time I tried to walk away...she would grab my elbow...and make me feel guilty for wanting to leave!! My god! I guess it was the right thing to do to stay and entertain her...but I mean COME THE HECK ON!
That was a tough one to lose.

The good news is that this volume is available online for a little over $200.00 in an ex-library copy in good condition.
A VG+ copy with a VG dust jacket is available for $1200.00.

I have a camel colored Stetson Homburg that is a Royal Stetson De Luxe St. Regis. http://maxwellstreetmarket.com/mrsquirrel/yyy59.jpg

This one says it is a Sovereign St. Regis. The hats look identical.

Can someone explain the difference?

The difference noted in the titles represent quality designation. Depending on the year of manufacture you may have a better quality hat with the royal de luxe than the sovereign in the auction even though the sovereign was a higher quality designation. Either way, you have a nice homburg!

Uh, those two homburgs do not look identical.
Meaning no offense to the owner of the gray hat,
but your camel homburg is by far superior felt,
crown height, block, brim curl, etc. Without seeing
the interior, I'm betting it's older.

I recently read somewhere here about sellers' ability to measure hat circumference correctly. Recently, I've asked two sellers to measure circumference, one for a size 7 1/4 and one for a size 7 3/8. Both measured at 22 inches, which would not be correct for either size. What has your experience been?
