Mallory off the bay

Got this Mallory (The Mallory Ten) for $25 shipped from ebay. Was listed as grey and I was looking for a grey or brown hat. Turned out to be a great deep brown color. Just slight signs of wear to the sweatband. Love the hat.

Painfully, mentally filed. I hope I didn't forget any birthdays by adding that. :)
Thanks.

I believe that "black label" was the bottom rung. "Blue label" was up from that -- and "white label" was above the blue label.

My 30's Dobbs finally arrived

The hat fits like a glove. I steamed it and smoothed out some of the creases in the crown and brim and got out some of the "old" smell that it picked up from being stored for so long. Anyway, here's my 1930's Dobbs, snap-brim fedora that I won on e-bay for around $50.

Here's mine, pre-Optimo clean and block. It's not in perfect shape, like the one that just sold, but it's pretty darn nice. It's blue label, rather than black. I have no idea which color represents what quality.

You have a very nice hat there, but it is not from the 30's. You never want to believe a ebay ad on age, unless it's vintage haberdasher(Dinerman).;)

I agree with Vic. Maybe mid-to late '40s though which is still impressive. In a '30s hat I'd look for non-reeded sweat band, 'welded' seam on sweatband rather than stitched, a more dated looking size tag and logos inside. Some '30s hats do have exceptions to these details but they are generally good indicators.

However, with what appears to be a fairly wide, brown swath of leather inside, I wouldn't consider it anything but a Golden Era classic hat.

The Hanover Square model is as good as a Whippet. I have three Hanovers and one more on the way. You did well Alchemy!

Alchemy, looks great! Dimensions fit you well. Is it grey or brown?
