It means it originally cost $100, at a time when most hats cost $10 or $15. Should be very fine pure beaver.
Not necessarily. I have a Resistol "Beaver 100" that also carries
the designation, "King's 50" and a $50 price tag. So Resistol was
fast and loose with the "Beaver 100" label, unless it refered only
to the percentage of beaver in the felt.

In any event, it's a high quality hat.

That's exactly the hat that I have in dark brown. It's a pretty lousy hat that I bought before I knew better.

While nothing fancy, I snagged this one with a heads up from good friend Rick Blaine ....

I hope to post something as soon as it gets home!

Okay, which of you FLers sniped me on that Spanish beauty? Well done, and DO post pics upon arrival. :eusa_clap
What was her name? Felecia? ;) :)

Rusty, I looked at that one but couldn't for the life of me figure out what exactly it was. I'm looking forward to your revelation.

Hey Carter its a cloth type fedora, kind of like the one worn by Hank Kimball. Although this one looks as if it has a wider brim { I hope}.
This type hat was common when I was a youngster...at least in my neck of the woods.
I will let you know.

I agree but is it worth that price in view of the low opinon of new age Borsalinos round here?

Ma Felecia non capisce! (with apologies to maestro Louie Prima)

Just a thought ...has the Lounge become so big that it is becoming a self sustaining vortex for all the decent vintage hats on the "Bay?

I won this oldie...
from the eBay offer:

"...a very sharp vintage 1940's men's chocolate brown fedora sized 7 1/8" with a 2 1/2" brim.

The markings on the inside headband are "BEAVER NAP TWENTY", "Lee Fifth Avenue Water Bloc, Gold Label,

Du Pont water repellent, shape retaining" and "THE GATELY SHOPS 241 Michigan Ave. Detroit.

The price tag on the inside headband is $20.00.

The hat is in excellent condition. I don't see any signs of wear""

I'm now trying to get some information about the hatter: Frank H. Lee Co., Fifth Avenue, New York.
There's a lot of 1940-1950 posters around.
Any one who has a hat from this company, please comment.
Any one who knows this company, or its history, ...I'm all ears...

I was tempted by this nice specimen but not at the price it went for in the end - for one, I don't think it can possibly be 1950s, more like 1970s I'd say, given that the 1964 price for this hat was $10.50.

And what a case of 'overselling' if ever there was, reminds me of those chain letters trying to sell 'make a million in 12 months' etc. :eusa_doh:

N. :)
