7 5/8 Dobbs

I lost my mind and bid on this Dobbs in the last 3 minutes. And won. The sweatband and liner look good so I'm thinking a clean and block should make a world of difference.

Also won this nice Stetson Milan made in Canada. 2 1/2" brim. 4.5" center dent crown. Perforated roan leather sweatband.

The store can order (or at least could in the past) the 100X and up westerns in those plexiglass displays and sell the hat with it.
Dern shame that one had a high crown and a cut down brim. those proportions do not work for me.

Dobbs

Carter,

Very nice finds. I am especially partial to the Dobbs; I have to admit to rather liking its current tumbled-around look. It looks like it knows some good stories!

I almost tried for that Canadian panama, too, but must've seen smoke rising from my checkbook just in time.

randooch, With shipping, all three hats came to $144.70 or an average cost of $48.23 per hat. Not too bad. There are certainly more good buys in my size (7 5/8) than usual.

I kind of like the rumpled look of that Dobbs as well. It will be interesting to see how it looks in the flesh...ummh....felt.

I've seen westerns for sale in retail stores with that clear hologram label that I took as a measure to stem counterfeits.
Most of the Hatco outlet hats I have picked up in the Garland store had holes punched in them in the rear sweatband.

Outlet Markings?

I haven't seen an outlet store hat yet, but is the sticker the only indentifying mark? If so, just remove the sticker and who knows? I would think the outlet might punch the sweatband or some other permanent identifier.

Knowing I'll never get to Texas, I'm hoping my sister might be able to visit the outlet in Garland in the future (when the job takes her to Dallas) and maybe pick me up something, but she doesn't know anything about hats.

The "boss" just shut me down from ebay for "financial" AND "storage" issues. I'm starting to fabricate some hat racks using some oak boards and dowels (in stock) and "doll heads" from Michaels as my first attempt. I might consider using used tennis balls as an option for the "doll heads". Gotta keep it CHEAP!!

great example of what I posted about last week. Won this on Ebay a couple of weeks ago, it should have been a 7 3/8 its a very nice hat it really is a 7 1/4 (tag is still inside) very soft felt but too small for me. If any of you guys want it I'll post in classifieds if not back on the Bay.

Even with some moth nibbles on the back of the crown, this one is a beauty. A nice buy at $77.99.

Even when the seller knew that this one was Clear Beaver Quality, they chose to list it as a "VINTAGE STETSON 7X BEAVER OPEN ROAD FEDORA LBJ HAT". They wrote that a buyer could clearly see Clear Beaver Quality (see 2nd image) and, since 44 people were watching the auction, they were sure they'd do well. They did OK at $84.69 but could have done better IMHO.
