Well, it's Garrett's fault, Stefan. I had been looking for pre-WWII Austrian velour for a looong time, and a golden hat, too, and here he comes and starts selling them by the bunch.
And on top of that, they have been restored by BSHW, and with new sweatbands and liners, so I can resize them without guilt.

I blame Steve - back in 2008-09 he started this whole Pre-war velour / longhair addiction.
I don't think of it as blame, but more like credit!

I await the arrival of this interesting piece.

Henry Roelofs company. Size 7

I am very curious to see this one. Seller claims early 1900’s. The newspaper shoved in the liner is Denver post from 1904. I believe Roelof merged with Guyer around 1914. Though there were some hats with both names made in years later.

It’s Quite misshapen and showing age... but definitely worth taking a flyer on this one for the curiosity factor.

Seller says size 7. 3inch brim. 4 1/2 crown. 1in ribbon.

WOW... that arrived quickly! Was expecting middle to end of next week. Then tracking said Monday... then knock at door today. Colorado to FL. Awesome!!

Well here it is and how it looks as it arrived.

The sweatband is soft and actually a lot nice shape than I thought. It could use a stitch or two to reattach completely.

Great hat! Looks like a lot of history too.

Some of the other guys probably have specific recommendations, but you might go for a leather treatment for that sweatband.

Thanks Daniel.. I was thinking that too... the sweat though really is in a lot better shape than it looks in the photos... very soft and pliable.. not stiff and cracky at all.

I gave it a real good brushing... and just a hand crease. Wow.. this thing really shaped up.

Incidentally... the newspaper the seller used to pack the shipment was also the Denver Post... but just a bit more recent [emoji3]

I’ve noticed that I get a lot of offers from ebay sellers lately. Has a new seller’s tool been added or something?

In any case, in a moment of weakness this hat that I’ve been looking at for a long time was offered at a very reasonable price. My resolve crumbled:

Beautiful hat, Brent! I have one by Optimo, and that braid looks exactly the same. Congratulations!

Congrats. I saw that and almost told you about it but figured you had probably seen it.

Thanks. Some of my best hats have come from tips from fellow Lounge members, and I also appreciate getting a heads up.

I’m leaving the other VS Milan for someone else...unless it comes way down in price.

Just received this Stetson Featherweight today. Its ridiculously light and soft and is easy to shape. I'm not sure how well it will keep the bash, but so far has stood up well. Not sure it's age, but it was found with a large collection of 30's hats, so it's probably close to that. Needs some more cleaning and maybe a steaming to make it whole again.
