These hats pop up on the bay or Etsy occasionally, usually adorned with pins. There was one listed that had over 80 attached.. This one only had 4 and I was able to mitigate the holes and the tarnish stain from two Sterling pins.

American Royal is an organization and not a shop per se. Most likely a special commission like you state.

Usually a stamp on the front of the sweat is the model......could be for the show as you say...however there IS a shop stamp from a Men's store on the side of the sweat.....usually society special orders indicate the society itself and not a specific store??Mark, American Royal refers to the annual stock show held in KC. I think these hats were probably a special order for the American Royal Society or some such organisation. HJ dug up a little info on them. Seems right around the end of an era for decent special orders. No tags at all. Glued in embroidered last drop 3X liner and the stamp of the store that handled them; Emory, Bird Thayer men's store in KC.

When Bowen says soft as a horses nose I think he's making reference to something else.I think you need to bold the 'T' in TAR for that on Micheal. Good to see you posting. Ran across this today ... one of your horses?

Stetson was probably "the official hat of the American Royal" more than once. There are boots out there that are labeled in a similar manor. Coke & Pepsi probably bid to be the official soft drink of the American Royal. I don't read much more into it than that.Greg,
This wonderful "American Royal" has me intrigued...People are seeing others but the ones shown look different from one another (and NOT as nice as yours), not the same like the Auctioneer Association hats (which are all OR clones). I wonder if perhaps rather than special order a person attending the show and perhaps buying a hat there could be having it gold foil stamped on site to commemorate the event (like stamp collectors have done for years). THAT would explain all the differences between the hats.....

Just bought this Vagabond. I didn't have one in this color. The seller says it's beige. I had just bought a beautiful hat from Garrett in the Classifieds, so I wasn't going to bid more on this one.
To my surprise, I won it for $50.
I wonder which decade it's from...

That's what @justdaniel told me, yes.Nice. I was observing that one too, but shipping costs to Germany ruin almost any bargain for me.
So this is name we see for you on eBay ... 7***-(65) ?
I actually had a card just like that in a Stetson I picked up off ebay a couple weeks ago. it says something along the lines of "Like hell it's your hat, this hat belongs to..."
I'll try to get a picture of it this evening
Sheez....and from Dinerman at that!!@AbbaDatDeHat this literally has your name on it:
