Won this vintage Montecristi today. Approx. 2 inch brim. The weave looks pretty tight. $75 plus $18 shipping. My size. A new listing. I thought I better act quick and take a chance.

It appears that the person who beat me in the bidding for this black Vagabond did not buy it after all.

The seller offered to let me have it for my second-place bid of $490, but I explained I got carried away during bidding and would only BIN for $350.
He agreed, and I did.

There’s a full size fur felt hat in this plastic shipping bag:

Of course it was misshapen on arrival. The seller defended his shipping stating he would have to pay more if he used a box. He alleged that he’s shipped a couple hundred hats this way and I’m the only one who has complained. Sometimes I really hate eBay.

Yeah, I got a Panama the other day that was shoved into a mailer box a good 2 inches shorter than the hat. It resulted in the hat tearing at the front of the crease in the crown.

I really like the hat and haven't seen another exactly like it, so I'm trying to come up with creative ways to reshape the crown to hide the tear instead of trying to fight to send it back for a refund.

If I've learned nothing else about hats since joining this forum, I've at least learned that ebay sellers don't care anywhere near as much about the hats as we do.

Well.....you’d probably do the same if both your hands were busy guiding the wheelbarrow carrying your cajones around too!

I haven't seen them when they arrive to Juan Carlos' in Texas. Otherwise, I guess I would have my own gripes.

Good grief! I wonder if he would have put it in a box if he charged the $35-50 most Ebay sellers want to charge to ship hats these days? Then if you question the expense, they get defensive or downright rude...

You could email the seller and mention the damage. Get an estimate on repair and throw that figure at the seller. Sometimes such tactics have garnered discounts/partial refunds for me when I still wanted the damaged hat...
