eBay defeat: My Stetson Open Road(ish) Beaver 25 arrived. The felt was hard, rough and nasty. Worse, the 7 5/8 turned out to be slightly smaller.

I mean, how hard can it be to get the size right when the tag is intact and plainly visible? Of course, the tag was not shown in any of the seller’s photos.

I can also say that I’ll never buy this vintage Beaver 25 again even if the hat is my size. Just a nasty piece of felt.

Bummer, Brent. That's not bad luck, but bad form.

Well that's pretty shady about the size. Return/refund with seller, or at least eBay's claimed protection against misrepresented listings?

Also, let me first preface the following by saying that my hat knowledge is extremely limited. Could it be possible that the poor quality is more a function of the Knotts Berry Farm & Ghost Town association, an amusement park, as opposed to the Beaver 25 association? Just something about the juxtaposition seems odd. Assuming 25 ties to a price point, I though hats with a dollar value tied to it were of a higher quality than the non-identified off-the-shelf variety. Something just doesn't seem to add up, though again, I'm probably just putting my foot in my mouth.

THIS really made me laugh....AND it has been getting worse lately....or I am noticing more.
Is it me or has the search engine in general become dumber and dumber??????

Sorry, Brent, that 6 looks like a 7 to me :)

Reminds me of TWO (2) Open Roads I ran accross a few weeks ago ( and one WAS a 7 5/8)..... they were both from the same period (I think from the late 70's) which was a very bad time for Stetson......as I opined in an earlier post after the encounters.....I suppose there were LOTS of hairless mice and rats running around the factory....having given THEIR fur to the cause:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::rolleyes:
So, I know just what you mean Brent.....YES, the felt WAS just that nasty.....
M;)
PS BOTH hats stayed just where they were......I put them right back down and went off to wash my hands......THOROUGHLY !!!

First, I don’t think the seller intentionally misrepresented the hat; he just wasn’t thorough.

This is not a Twenty-Five, as in price point, but rather a “Beaver 25” which I thought was more of a beaver percentage than a price...maybe I’m wrong on that?

I don’t think Stetson made this hat for the amusement park; rather, the amusement park ordered a quantity of these hats from Stetson and requested that the factory put the park’s name on the sweatband. I’d bet that any Beaver 25 made at the same time would be the same quality.

I’ll get my money back without any trouble. eBay doesn’t protect sellers but they do take care of buyers. I’m sure it was an honest, if avoidable, mistake on the seller’s part.

Stetson/MacLachlan mystery hat.
The liner says Stetson. The sweatband, MacLachlan. The felt, to my eye, looks Mac.
Did someone put a Stetson liner in a Mac, or a Mac sweat in a Stetson?
The listing said "Stetson Royal de Luxe Beaver Fifteen Hat Felted Wool".
I asked questions, but the seller didn't reply, and I started to wonder if I was letting a MacLachlan (my favorite felts) get away, so I bought it.
Pretty sure Ignacio can clean it up. If not, it wasn't a lot of money.
