We are referring to the material covering the embroidered liner. The covering was to keep the liner from getting hair products (hair gel etc..) on the liner. We have been referring to three different variations of the liner/covering.

The oilskin version.

The later clear plastic version.

And the version without a protective covering.

Might be worth a thread to collect the variations, if one doesn’t already exist. I have only a couple of Stetsons left from the 1950s but it seems there were a number of materials used for crown protection. The oilskin you show was a translucent vinyl, I think. Some of the very clear and crispy material might be cellophane rather than plastic. I expect there is not much difference in vintage between them. Did Stetson use a paper protector like Knox and Borsalino? Not sure if I’ve seen an example.

I had no idea that a baseball hat was worth that kind of money,17 hundred or something crazy like that.

No clue on the size, but I couldn’t help myself:

I actually saw that hat, ALMOST bid on it....was very curious about it....let us know what you think!

I had a few questions, but at the reasonable BIN price I figured I had to move fast if I wanted it. I’m guessing it’s a 1960s’ hat but I really don’t know. I’ll let you know my impressions when it gets here...maybe by the end of next week?
