+1.
Love the oh-so-modern initials on the sweat, too. :)

Hello Randall! Thank you I had not noticed any initials but I will take a peek! How I missed that I have no idea, but I guess I was just so thankful to be able to purchase this as my budget is already squeaky from going over board for Christmas...and then since....shop till my purse drops! lol!

Great looking hat. I have a couple Resistols and they are awesome. Yours looks new. MB has some great looking hats on ebay and he starts the bids at very reasonable prices. It will look great with a wide ribbon, I did that to one of mine too.

Thank you. Yes it just has that shape that seems to be able to convert to a wide ribbon just right. I thought sticking to the same color (or close to it) would be best. And other than a few "hammies" that Daniel has, all the hats he has are thin ribbons. I will sure learn a lot to do the ribbon work. Have to take out the liner...and then iron the ribbon by doing a "swirl" with the iron....then make the bow....and measure everything out.....will take me a few days worth of frustration but the end results should make it all worth while. And if I get lost...and cannot finish it...then I will just send it out for a pro to do it. But I will sure put the shoulder to the wheel on it. I have a desire to make the bow have a deep "V" to it.....sort of make it a bit different then the average bow.

Now, I've got a new hat again! I've decided to buy this black Knox Twenty Homburg on ebay. It just so happens that one has been in my size, 7 3/8. When do you think it is dated, which decade?

This hat has been mentioned here before;

http://www.ebay.com/itm/221662570168?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

It started at $1,495 if I recall correctly. The guy's been walking it down about $100 bucks a week when it doesn't sell. Sounds like a family heirloom that I, personally, would never sell but, hey, not everyone treasures hats. It's a beauty. Any guess what it might finally go for?
I'm thinking it would sell for $295 BIN or maybe even $395. $495 seems a bit high still but maybe not?

Good question, Tommy. Prices are so weird on hats that there really is no telling. I'm no Cavanagh expert--that's Brad Bowers for sure--but his website seems to me to suggest that this is a late 50s hat at earliest, maybe even a little later.

I'm fairly new to the hat world, having purchased my first fur felt fedora at Batsakes just before Christmas. However, as I wrote in the "How Did You Start Wearing Hats?" thread, I tend to dive into some things with both feet. Therefore, I now have five hats (one on the way), two purchased from eBay over the last week. Nothing truly vintage, but I think I got a pretty good deal. Picked up this sweet Selentino Homburg "Alpha" last week and received it Wednesday:

Although it's the same brand and size (57) as the Selentino Sterling I got from Batsakes, it's a little tight on me, as I think it had conformed to the other guy's head. Measures a full 1/8" less front to back than my size 57 Sterling, so I've been wearing it around the house, trying to get it to conform to my head. The photo is a little blurry, but the grey/black feather on the steel felt looks great. My fist Homburg, of course.

So I got all bold last night and won this Dobbs "Deion" NIB:

It should get here early next week. Any opinions on the Dobbs Deions? I have seen some references in other threads, but nobody that owns one. I liked the color and it was my size, plus I got it at a good price. Hope I like it, but eBay can be a crapshoot sometimes.

Now I just need to lay of the trigger-finger, because I'll be in Texas next week and plan to visit the Stetson/Resistol/Hatco Factory Outlet. Good Lord only knows what I'll walk out of there with.

Welcome, Fruno.
The Dobbs you are referring to are modern hats. Nothing wrong with them particularly, I had a couple when I started wearing hats in earnest over 10 years ago.
I graduated from the modern more tapered, stingy brims to the higher straighter crowns and wider brims typically seen over 50 years ago.
If you go to the Stetson Outlet, you will likely see some of the newer offerings that more approximate the styles of the 40s and 50s hats. See Joshbru's critique of the new Excellent Stetson thin ribbon.
You may find your tastes will change over time.
