!oogity boogity!

Where is this listed for sale?
The #3 can I use as a rain cover on the end of the vertical exhaust pipe on my farm tractor has rusted through and this might prove to last longer for that purpose. The bullets should add the ballast needed to keep the wind from blowing it off.

Who care's if it's wool when it has a real bat skull!

I wonder if he can make one big enough to hold real .308, 7.62x39 or at least .223 in the band as the faux .22 LR isn't going to cut if for me....

NOS Stetson Boss of the Plains 4x

BossofthePlains-1.jpg

Stamped "4 x beaver - Boss of the Plains - Death Valley 49ers"

So at least I know it is not buffalo fur, i.e.- not an Austral.

4x says to me 8o's or later.

Is the box shown the same as current Stetson boxes?

Anyone know when/if the mighty Hatco might have put these out?

Maybe a special run f/ the Death Valley 49ers? [huh]

Anyway- I am glad to have one at last!

Hehe, the Bailey Guthrie is a fine straw hat, which is still being manufactured as far as I know. Calling it "Vintage" doesn't make it worth $160. What planet is this guy on?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-BAI...218?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41678505a2

I bought a Guthrie new with tags on Ebay a few weeks back for $24, and was surprised to see them offered for so much on the Bailey web site, and recently on Ebay. It needed some shaping but has been a pretty good everyday Panama while my Ecuadorian Panama was in the shop, but I would never buy one for what they are asking when there are good deals to be had on real quality vintage Panamas. I don't know if the Guthrie is straw or paper, but it is very plasticized. On the upside, it is a very hardy hat, and with a little creasing doesn't look quite so machine-stamped.

as I said in an earlier post.....If there is a problem with my comment or someone doesn't like my comment.....why not PM me and say what it is they don't like?

My statement about buying another gun and more ammo and my looking at plans to move out of the USA stems directly from my personal problems which I chose not to go into detail about in the comment.

I haven't said anything about what has gone on or happened because it is personal and I don't know anyone on this forum well enough to confide my problems with.

If you want to know my miserable tragic story I'll post it here. I have nothing to hide or be ashamed of.

Besides losing my job, at age 61, because of the recession and not drawing a paycheck since 2008. Losing a large part of my savings and having to live off of my saving for about 4 years. And, now close to 65, I will never have meaningful or decent employment the rest of my life. I had to go on Social Security early to keep from depleting my savings. at a large penalty for early retirement.

In Feburary of this year a Nephew and his wife were murdered in my home while they were staying with me.

Just Monday night my home was flooded out from a storm that wasted parts of northeast Florida. I was just allowed to go back to the property Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. My house still has about 3 foot of water in and around it. It had about 6 foot of water Tuesday morning. This has happened 4 times over the past 20 years I have lived close to this river. This was the worst. The house will have to have major renovation, almost completely rebuilt. Ins. will pay for most of it, but, I'm not up to going thorugh this again at this age and with all the rest of the problems. I decided just yesterday that I will not go back and rebuild my home.

I am now without a home. and, my life is completely changed for the worse than it was just 4 years ago and I see nothing in the future that shows me it will be any better for me.

I am looking to buy 2 hand guns from a friend and ammo now because I will not be able to afford anything extra in the future. And, If I do move out of the country I may not be able to buy these things somewhere else.

I have read it can be cheaper for americans to retire in other countries than here in the USA. There are several thousand Americans that do just that every year. Some even have American sections they live in in other countries.

Do you see why I just made a short comment without all the explanation.
Is there something sinister and horribly offensive to people on this forum about owning hand guns and retiring in another country?

To use a line I saw you use just last week to another poster........Are you happy now.

After the parties involved with this have read this comment.......you can delete it with my blessings.

Sorry to hear of your travails but glad we are here to help you vent it. Australia years ago was a lot cheaper but nowadays you would maybe be better to retire with the insurance money to say Costa Rica or maybe a cheaper more affordable state in the US.

Glad you got that one Josh, I wondered who sniped me at the last minute and I was a bit relieved given the size really wasn't determined. Let me know if it doesn't fit ;)

I didn't know it was you that I beat out at the last second! :eusa_doh:

Sorry about that. If I knew that you were going for the hat, I would have laid off.

I bid even though its a 7 1/8, because from experience almost every 20's/30's/40's panama that I have ever had, with the exception of one, has ran small or shrunk though the years. I'm hoping it fits more like a 7. I've never worn an optimo crown, so we'll see. From the pictures, the crown appears to be straight and a good height.

Dan,

I just think that these hats are not that popular in this area or even the entire US. Sometimes there will be a bidding frenzy and they will go high, but I would say 80% of the time I am able to get these for a steal. There just doesn't seem to be as much demand for vintage women's hats from the Golden Age as there is for men's hats of the same period.

My newest email gripe from ebay. I don't own a cat. :)

"Thank you for sending the replacement hat. The smell of cat urine puts it above all the rest. When I'm ready to purchase a quality (read expensive) hat, I'll be sure to contact you... last!"

I'm sure the guy is a lounge member. Now, that's a great way to make me take care of you. :) I will add that it says replacement because he pulled the backweave out of his first hat and I'd sent him another (gratis).
