That's a beauty, Anj -- Congrats! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

+1. Great score.

With a slight relaxation of rules, here are possibly the worst hat auction photos I've seen, where the bad is in the presentation of the hat, not the lighting. This is a live auction, and the (new, crumpled) Stetson has 3 bids.

It is, indeed, a '40s Knox, based on the style of reorder tag. Nice win!

Thanks for confirming it Brad!

Always amazed how people can nail these things so well from the tiniest details, but I guess when you have a sufficient range of samples you eventually end up finding patterns.

Well I've seen Durafelt, Pliafelt and even Vita-felt but this is the very first rare and elusive Stetson Wad-o-felt that I have ever seen listed on Ebay! No wonder there are already bids in on it...lol
It really makes you wonder what the seller is thinking...

Wowsa! We need a "drool" smilie to adequately capture my reaction. So I will just use the "applause" smilie instead. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

I seem to have spilled a little saliva myself. Too bad I don't have a fuzzy Borso to wipe my chin on.

Good score, Ande. :eusa_clap

What's the problem? It looks like one of those crusher hats to me. [huh]

I want to sincerely thank all my Fedora Lounge pals for easing my mind after dropping all that loot on the vintage fuzzy Borsalino. I knew I could count on you!

Don't know, but I'm sure the buyers are thinking that it'll pop right out into a wonderful hat and are hoping for a steal.

Of course, if more then one person recognizes what kind of steal it would be if nobody else knew about it...

But really, you can tell all you need to know about the hat- sovereign, decent shape felt and sweat, liner clean, size, approximate age... what more do you need to know? Compared to many hate auctions, those are great. The bad ones are where you have to try and guess if it's a fedora or a cat.

And I dig that ribbon width. Neither wide nor narrow.

You are going to love the roll-up Scott. They typically are very comfortable to wear and a joy to travel with.

It is a very interesting reference book on the Borsalino company and family history. Not so much on hats, as such.

+1. It's a wonderful book as more of a pictorial on hats, workers, and art - it's very much an artistic, coffee table book. I don't know if the '89 book will be as high quality as the '57 though. If "plates" is the proper term for images that have been reproduced and then affixed (glued?) to the pages, then the plates alone in mine are fantastic. The huge fold-out poster at the end, showing the entire factory and all of the employees is also great. As 'spitz said, it's not a great reference book, but it's still my favorite hat book.
