Just for the record, Lefty, I won that Champ and the Adams Pacesetter. I actually contacted the guy to see if he was willing to consider a BIN, but he refused. He suggested that I bid, that I might get them for less. You know what? He was right!!:)

Amusingly, I emailed an ebay seller about an item (not a hat) and offered him $250 for it. He emailed back and said that he will not do a BIN and will play the auction out. He said that he had also already gotten an email from a guy offering a BIN for $400 so my $250 was ridiculous.

So. I waited. My bid was the highest at $300.

The guy gipped himself out of $100 by not accepting that $400 BIN offer and my "ridiculous" offer was only $50 less than my final payment to him!

LOL

Well, he overplayed his hand. I've done that before in other venues.

I once made an offer for BIN to a Seller, he countered with a higher BIN, I passed. Ended up buying the item in the auction end for about 70% of my initial offer. Sometimes we get lucky, sometimes they do.

I love when the entire name, or at least enough of it to Google, are in a hat.

Yup, that's pretty cool when it happens. I was quite pleased to win a hat that was owned by a Nevada politician who had ties to a casino in Cuba in the '50s. I'm not sure that the grandson who sold the hat and had proudly put his grandfather's name in the ad expected that casino info to surface, if he'd known about it at all.

In another auction, not a hat but hat tools. I didn't bid but was watching.

I saw those tools. I almost bid on them. But I realized that it was going to go far higher than I'd pay and let it go. I stopped watching when it was $150! I see it went quite a bit higher.

Man, in some ways, Paypal via Ebay is a pain. After winning 2 items from one seller, I requested they be sent together. Originally seller asked $12 shipping for one item, and $18 for the other. When I asked him to combine the two since they were coming to the same address and I didn't want to pay shipping on both, the included shipping charge jumped to $48. I can't imagine that is accurate, but I'm not sure what to do about it.

It isn't accurate. It is unfair and bad business. Ebay has a system for marking down the reputation. I would give a big fat 1 for shipping charge along with the negateive feedback.

Ok, in fairness, I might have gotten a little ahead of myself. When I saw the second invoice, I responded to the seller that it was exorbitant. I then sent him a second message asking that he recalculate the shipping charges. (Mind you this was the third or fourth communique between he and I) I then posted my comment on here seeking advice on how to proceed, and left to go on a bicycle ride. Upon my return, the seller had apparently reconsidered his position and sent me a new, far more reasonable, invoice. Thanks for the responses, it appears the matter is resolved.

My first vintage

I just picked this vintage Dobbs up from ebay, hope I did well, and it fits as nice as it looks?

Thoughts and advice welcomed. Most of my hats have been store or hat boutique bought i.e Scalas' (still love them) ..... but any guidance is appreciated.

I can't wait to get a few felt hats, but for now its straws and Panamas as its hot out.
