It was not in good shape, and it is a size 7. Not gonna fit on my 7 3/8 noggin. Is there any recourse? Or am I stuck with a tiny hat. I paid way more than 99 cents.

Bummer. I remember watching that one.

Have you contacted the seller? I note that his listing says all sales final, but I also note that he states it's a 7 3/8. (Of course, he also said it's 22 inches around the sweatband, so that's conflicting info.) You might be able to get him to take it back since it's significantly not as described. If not, file a complaint with ebay as item significantly not as described--and include not only the size but any other issues since he says it's in wonderful, cared for condition. If in the end you're stuck with it give him a negative feedback.

To file the complaint go to your list of items you've won. There's a column labeled "Action" with drop-down menus. Click on that. At the bottom of the list it has "Report an item not received." That's the tool you use to file your dispute as it's for both unreceived items and not as advertised items. Click on it and follow the steps. Give as much info as you can.

If you've paid via PayPal eBay will dump you to the PayPal site to file a complaint through them.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
Tom

Mallory 6 3/4. It will need to become a 7 1/8. Did I mention it was 99 cents, plus shipping?

I dunno, J.T., a little steam to shape the brim and you're there! lol lol

Seriously, that's quite a jump from 6 3/4 to 7 1/8. Looking forward to seeing the results!

I've done pretty good on e-bay.
I bought 1 hat that was way larger the stated (7 5/8) but I posted it here and D-Man bought it for a friend.
Another hat I bought said it was used in a window display and it was sun faded and filthy. I soaked it in hot water and the sweat fell apart and when I stretched it over my block I tore the brim.

***EDIT: This baby is up for sale in the classifieds*******

I was just high bidder on a pretty neat looking 7 1/4 Resistol Panama. I think I will replace the ribbon but I have been wanting a decent straw hat for the summer and stingies look better on me. Comes with the box. Not bad for 32 bucks shipped.

Thanks guys, It says "A Byer-Rolnick product" which makes me think that it was made before Hat Co. bought Resistol in the sixties. I don't know if Hat Co. referenced the old name after buying them up though. The description listing said it has "LRS LION" (the model name?) and "Self Conforming Ecuadorian Panama" on the sweat. Haven't found anything on Google yet regarding it. I do recall some other guys posting up some Stetson or Resistol panamas but dang it if I cant find them on the board now. After I see it in person, I'll weigh the ribbon swap. If I do decide to do so Rick, I will happily drop the ribbon in the mail to you for nothing. Off hand I prefer thinner hat bands but I'll see when it gets here.

Classic pimple on pumpkin shot JT and still loving the medieval backdrop.

J.T. , That's incredible. Did you you have to replace the sweatband on this one? Did you take the sweatband out when you stretched it?

Congrats Mississippi,
:eusa_clap

That's a great looking hat. The sweatband is puckering a bit so the hat may have shrunk slightly. If it's tight on your head you can always ease it out a little with a hat stretcher. If not then hopefully the leather will smooth out as you wear it. Just apply a little Lexol to it. I only mention this because you said this is your first vintage hat and it's not really a big deal. As long as the hat fits well you were wise to snag it. Overall, judging by the photos, the condition looks great so you should not need to send it out to a hatter. I'm sure you will really enjoy it.

Please post some photos with it on your head pal.

After months of searching, I've finally found (and won) a vintage hat in my size...a WHIPPET NO LESS! I am excited.:D Here's the link. I can't wait to recieve it.

Ah, so you're the one who won that one! I was watching it. It's the second Whippet I've seen that doesn't have (or at least, it doesn't appear to have) a brim binding and a narrower-than-usual brim. I've got one myself with a brim that's only about 2" wide and no edge binding. It's made me wonder when they stopped using the Whippet name, as I think mine looks to be late 50s or early 60s.

Be that as it may, it does look like it's in great shape! Congratulations!

Cheers,
Tom

I removed both the sweatband and ribbon, for the stretch. The sweatband was starting to crack, so I treated it with baby oil. It's still fragile, but back in place. Oddly enough, the liner was nearly like new.
