Auctions like this one drive me crazy. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rt=nc&nma=true&item=260734230097&si=nAa2V8ZHPaKwMyZtGyvPdzVt8II%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT
The seller has no idea what size the hat is. He marks it as 7 5/8 and then say he doesn't no nothin bout no sizen Miss. Scarlet. He gives measurements in 1/3 of an inch. Who the *^*^*%(* has a tape that measures in 1/3 of an inch? then he say it has a 22 inch cir. when asked a question that says it should be at least 22 inches. In the listing of 7 5/8 it should be at least 23 inches (to allow for bad measuring. I am glad he only got $78.00 for a 7X clear beaver. Dumb A@$#$ as Red Foreman would say. Why can't sellers figure out hat size is the most important part of a hat listing? I hope someone here got a great hat cheap.

What is Vita Felt?

I was led to believe it was an experiment in a more sustainable (for lack of a better word) method of fur production, wherein the Wabbits were fed diets & vitamins (vita-felt) to optimize desirable fur qualities & shaved rather than slaughtered to harvest the fur. A noble experiment that didn't seem to pan out. I have always wanted a vita-felt. I wish that dope would've let the auction run, dagnabit. I am sure someone here will chime in w/ more solid info if I am mistaken.

Hat and winner are already posted.
Google will convert any standard measurement for you. Of course, it's pretty easy to convert 6 1/3 to 6.33 and 7 3/4 to 7.75 and put those figures into an ellipse circumference calculator. 22.23, or just about 22 1/4 into my first google result for "hat size chart" (Miller Hats) shows me that that hat is a 7 to 7 1/8.

Lefty did you win the hat? What I want to know is where did the 7 5/8 in the size section come from? If the Hat was 7 5/8 I was willing to go much higher then the selling price. It was poorly listed and then the size was ambiguous. I am glad you got it Lefty.

I wish I had such a tiny head. No, Alan won it - go back one page, toward the bottom (post 13597), and continuing to the top of this page (sorry lurkers, the pages are different when you're signed in). I don't see the 7 5/8 designation. Am I missing it, or was the title/description edited before any bids were placed?

edit: OK, I see that you're looking in that description box. I don't know where that number comes from. If there's no size tag, trust the measurements over the estimate, though I'm yet to buy anything without a size tag.

A lot of hats have the size under the hat band too. I am glad Alan got it. I would have been a lot happier if I was 7 /8 and I had won it. Like I said clueless sellers drive me crazy. I did not trust is measurements since no one has a tape the measures 1/3 of an inch so he was only guessing as it was.

Hi Jeff,

We have to appreciate the less knowledgable hat sellers on ebay and the bargains we enjoy because of their limited knowledge. Perhaps the 7 5/8 came from his measurement across the length of the head opening?... or just a wild guess? Clearly the size tag is gone and the seller didn't hunt under the sweat for more info. I prefer the measurements across the opening - easy to do... and I generally get a good fit with the numbers posted. Circumference on ebay is a lot harder to trust. The seller clearly had a lot of requests for buy it now consideration.

If it turns out to be a 7 5/8, you'll have another shot at it!

Thank you for the notes Allen. I am just down on sellers. I just got a judgment today on a seller that stiffed me. This one was just clueless. I really want to know where he got the 7 5/8 number from so I can smack him across the head. I am truly glad that you have the hat though. Some day my price will come. LOL

ack. I hadn't bothered with the "view larger", as it's not my size.

the Stetson Viscount doesn't show up often, 7 1/2

I was about to bid on that gray whippet that ONLY sold for $150 bucks just now. I hit the bid button in the waning seconds of the auction and instead of taking my bid it sent me to the godsdammned login screen!!!

Bastages.

Don't know if this applies to your situation -- but, when there's an important auction I'm interested in, I always log out of eBay and then log back on before bidding -- just to decrease the odds of something like this happening. Sorry to hear that.

I guess I better do that from now on, but after over 10 years of ebaying I've never, ever had this happen to me before.
