Two more for the OR and OR clone collection; I really need to stay off e-Bay for a while but there seems to be a plethora of super size 7s out there right now and no "pinhead" (for IC and Colby Jack:D ) feeding frenzy! I feel like a feeding frenzy of one lately....

You are making this 7 1/2 LO weep with envy. Nice hats, great prices.

Y'all may remember this item with the unfortunate crease:
Stetson153X.jpg

It arrived today and I'm happy to report that a short session with the steamer ameliorated that issue:

It was listed as a 6 7/8, but the pristine tag says otherwise :( :

On the other hand, it really does measure 21 1/2 inches in circumference :) .

No union label.

Very substantial but soft and pliable felt, Mode edge. I suspect I'll want to keep this one for special occasions. I feel funny about even putting it on for fear of dislodging the price tag!

Pardon my outburst - but you State-side Loungers are such a lucky bunch. The number of great lids sold in the US by folk who refuse to sell to us foreigners is heartbreaking. No matter how much I plead, beg and otherwise abandon my dignity in the quest for that elusive fantabulous lid, most will not sell offshore.

You live in fedora El Dorado you lucky buggers!

Ebay victory...I think

Hello fellow Hattertarians!

Well, I am now the proud parent of a 1950's Courney Beaver Suede hat! I was looking on Ebay and there it was...from my "time' even...looking so lonely.....well, I put in a bid thinking such a wonderful hat like this in "like new" condition would be snapped up for at least $80! But nooooooooo. I won! Darn it!

Description came right off the leather sweatband...so that was accurate. And it did come with its original box. If "like new" has 18 moth bites in the crown of the felt, a leather sweatband with stitching so old the first time you opened it up all the treads let go. If "like new" means the inner lining falls out...well then, I got a bargain! It did come with a box, but it really is a lost cause. Since the condition of the box was not described, I can't complain about that. I didn't expect much in the way of a 55 year old cardboard box anyway.

I got out a pot of water and set it to boiling. Then, steaming the hat, I used a hat brush and brushed the hell out of it. More like a shoe than a hat. That is when the lining fell out and into the boiling water. Well, no fleas left in there. I opened up the sweatband to get a better purchase behind the flea bites. That is when the sweatband fell off. and into the water. (not really. I added that part for artistic verisimilitude.) Next I went to work on the flea bites. The nap of the felt is like a suede, so just kept fluffing it up. Got them all out except one. Well, out if you consider a comb over on a bald guy hair. Next, I teased the two remaining divots with a needle, using the flat of the needle over and around the area just to tease the felt up. Mostly, it worked. There is one you can barely see on the top of the hat, in the middle of the bash. I might fill it in or I might just leave it. Hey, it IS 50+ years old. Has a right to have a scar or two.

Tomorrow I will take it to my hatter, Henry the Hatter, and have them put in a new sweatband and reattach the liner. And block it so it doesn't look like hairy dead animal lump on my head.

On the positive side.....

The color is Ox Blood, think dried blood color. Brown with hints of red and purple. Very cool. The crown is tall and straight (old school) and it has attitude, Baby! Gangster! It is a high quality felt and well made. Wasn't too much so, all in all, not so bad. We will see what it cost to put in the liner, etc. "Wonderful hat you have there, Sir! That will be $8,000 please. Cash, check or credit?"

I must say I'm glad HatsDirect does not take the same stance as some e-Bay sellers or there might be no Akubra Overload, I Love the FedIV, or Campdraft threads on the Lounge. I must also say that I think everyone should be able to bid and be shipped hats anywhere............from Size 7 1/8 up of course; I don't need the competition with the 7s here in Fedorado! ;)

My comments are the same as everyone else's - wonderful hat. Too bad it fits small for a 7 1/8 - if the opposite were true we might be able to work out a deal :)
