I recently bought a Singer 66 sewing machine...I don’t sew and don’t have plans to learn, but it was beautiful and just struck me as a great piece of art and engineering.

I have three 66’s and a few others. Beautiful machines, and they sew fantastically. Congrats on that. Is it on a bentwood case?

I bought it on the Goodwill site. It’s still waiting to be shipped. I don’t know anything about them so I don’t know how to answer your question. It will be a display piece only.

Thanks, guys. I will try to get it back to working order, even if it is just for display. Three of the "fingers" are damaged and it's missing its garter-spring (Marc DeCou offers those for sale, but I think these can be found at a decent hardware store). All seems fixable. Only need to get it here.

Do you have the bottom plate, Stefan? Yhe one you transfer the info from the perforated paper to?

Dang long-ovals. If they had only given you the width (and not the length) the 6-3/8 size wouldn’t have even made it through your filter. Sellers often think 7.5 inches equals a size 7.5. That or the size is a 3X.

Finally snagged me a heathered long hair! Looks to be in great condition, too. Caint wait for it to travel to South Georgia.
Also grabbed a super mint condition 50’s 58cm Mossant homburg from Etsy today. Hatterday Saturday!

Ha Ha! That one looks like a sweet Royal Stetson, probably early 40s? It will be interesting to check the reorder tag when you get it.

Enjoy that one to the max, you pulled it off in less than 20 minutes by my calculations

What clues you to that? I was thinking late 40s early 50’s, but I’m no serious dating expert.
I’ll be sure to include some pics of the tags when she gets here...unless the sweatband ends up being too stiff to move around.

I think you can comfortably say it is pre-50s. It has no liner cover and stars in the Stetson crest. While there is a lot of bleed-over on these things (mostly with the more expensive models), those are good signs of a 40s hat.

The trademarked Royal Stetson in script on hats was first in commerce in 1935. To my knowledge to date the 30s Royals have the term stamped in that cursive script. This is interesting for the size tag and adjustment ribbon in the back.

If it comes with the red and orange tags in the back there won’t be much controversy. If the red tag has three boxes, then we’ll speculate if it is a late 30s hat. Clear as mud

I recently “inherited” one myself dated to circa 1923...

Treadled-driven, so I can fix my pants in a power outage!

It’d be awesome if it turns out to be a late 30s/early 40s, as I have around 8 mid/late forties fedoras, but none earlier.
I have a prized mint condition mid 30s Dobbs homburg and the typical 20/30s Stetson bowler.
My humble collection could use a hairy ‘30s fedora bump!
