Yep! I will. So you were one of the slowpokes, and Daniel might have been the other...

For what it's worth, that ribbon very well could be an one of the few original parts and the damage/flaw appears to be very minor. I would humbly suggest keeping that part as is. That being said, it is now your hat to do as you wish.

Saw it, wanted to buy it, but the details just weren't adding up. I had sent the seller a message asking for several clarifications but he never responded. Probably because you bought it in the interim.

I seriously considered buying it just for the body because I don't think it's mohair. The only visible part with Stetson branding is the liner, and it almost looks too pristine. The sweatband looks to be a replacement because I didn't see any pictures with Stetson branding/embossments. It was also sewn at the back seam, which wouldn't jive with his 20s description. Too many unknowns for me to take a chance, especially since I just bought a couple hats this past week.

That being said, if the felt body turns out to be vintage longhair it's still a darn good price even with a refurb. Please let me know the details when you get this.
Refurbs with Ignacio cost 55 bucks, but you have to provide the sweatband.

If Ignacio does a refurb on it, it looks like the ribnon will probably tear very easily... I have a lot of ribbons, so I might as well put in a new one..

Oh! I forgot to say the seller said that the Stetson stickers were behind the sweatband. The sweatband fell off when he looked, so I will probably replace it, since I too think it's not original

Thanks for the kind words! Here's a few more pics from the seller:

This will only be my second straw, so my knowledge is very limited, but the weaving looks to be pretty impressive. I mean, it's not a superfino Panama, but still rather intricate in its own way.

After some digging I was able to find some pretty neat information about the hatter too. I love hats that have story associated with them - a previous owner, an old store, etc. More to come when the hat arrives next week.

The sweat is DEFINITELY not original. I don’t think the liner is remotely original either. As the other posted earlier, the ribbon looks like the only original part.

Enjoy the hat, the brim size and overall quality certainly look special! I’m really glad you got it.

I just bought this one for $40.
The seller says it's Mohair, and I looked it up. Wikipedia says it's made from the hair of an Angora goat. It looks nice, and Ignacio can easily replace or repair the sweatband and the ribbon.
Does anyone know if Mohair is rough, like wool? I have no idea.

I don’t think it’s mohair at all. I have yet to see a mohair Stetson from that era (wait for Allen to post one..) It is probably nutria or beaver, but without the original sweat and liner we can’t really tell.

For now it is a super sweet Stetson!

The reorder tag will help date it, that’s about all you need.

Looks nice, Max. Probably not mohair though, but a velour hat. I don't think goat hair was used for hatting at all.
