My “size 7 3/4” Dobbs arrived. @Woodtroll was right that the seller was off on the size. I have it in the classifieds for a the next five days and then I’ll return it if it doesn’t sell.

I have no problem with defeats; if someone bids higher than I do, good luck to them. That's what auctions are for. My gripe however is when I'm not allowed to bid at all. I can understand someone not willing to ship overseas, but why can't I bid and let me worry about the shipping address. This has happened to me more than once the last week. Last time was this Stetson Standard Quality.

Thanks, Brent. This one I stumbled upon when it was close to the finish, so nothing to be done. Mike has on occasion bid for me, but extra help is always useful. Appreciate that. Now I just need to find that unicorn hat flying under the radar! That has to hurt. If you know in advance that the seller won’t let you bid you can always ask one of us to do it for you. I’d be glad to help...and my surcharge is very reasonable Seriously, I’d bid for you. No law against straw purchases of hats...or straw hat purchases either. If you only find out at the end of the auction when you place a last second bid there isn’t much that can be done.

I’d be happy to help too Stefan. Provided my Estate isn’t already liquidated before my kids get to it! LolI have no problem with defeats; if someone bids higher than I do, good luck to them. If you enter a bid amount you get a message from Ebay that states that the item cannot be shipped overseas and therefore are not allowed to bid. Ebay bidders with a listed overseas address are therefore excluded from these auctions, even if they can provide a US address as an alternative. Goodwill works the same in a sense because their website won't even load on any of my computers or tablets.I was bidding on that one, in the last minute. I was trying to use my phone and laptop to enter different high bids in sequence, but didn't exactly have the technique down. I was still high at 3 seconds, but not at the bell.
Were your bids blocked in some way? How were you prevented from bidding? How would they even know the shipping address before you won? Or were you denied the hat after you won the auction?
Thanks, Bowen. If the occasion presents itself I'll be in touch. Maybe this exclusion is a good thing for me; prevents me from going overboard (more than I already am) on hats.I’d be happy to help too Stefan. Provided my Estate isn’t already liquidated before my kids get to it! Lol
But sure!!

What could possibly go wrong....I’m not yet certain if this is going to be a success or a defeat. It was listed as a US size 7 3/4! And described as a size “medium?”

Biggest defeat in a while. I was sure I was going to win this, because there didn't seem to be much interest in it. I put in a fair maximum bid (or so I thought) but was outbid (I wasn't in to raise my max bid again). Aaargh. Hope a fellow lounger got it, because I think it's of historical interest. Very early Echter Borsalino.
