Well, I shake my head at some of the prices being paid these days, and I don't play in those leagues. However, given the market these days - what with Whippets going for $500 - $650 and the like - I think you got a great deal. It really does have all the attributes you've been waiting for, why wait longer?

I was happy to snag this Stetson, though I doubt it's a 1940s model as was advertised. It looks like the Selv-edge that was resurrected in the 50s to describe a stuck edge as described in this thread.

Here is one of the biggest piles of lies I have seen on an ebay hat description for a long time.

This guy claims he has a hat from the 1880s and it is clearly from the 1960s.

I am not sure how old that hat really is, but, Sterns (mens store) has been around for over 130 years before they closed their doors. Perhaps someone with more hat knowledge could help date that hat, it is in horrible condition for sure.

I think it's undisputable that the hat is from the late-middle 20th century; this newspaper article in the Lewiston Journal and this article in the Bangor Daily News place the opening of the Waterville store right around the turn of the century, however, so even if there were some way that this hat is much older than the '60s, it's certainly not 130 years old.

OK, more an item of interest, and not really eBay, but our esteemed postal service. Now, I got no truck with the USPS, I think they're pretty amazing most of the time, and my mail and packages are very well taken care of. Ever since joining Amazon Prime, I've been working our poor letter carrier, Veronica, to death.

So compare and contrast - I won a Stetson, I think last Friday, on eBay. It was dutifully shipped in short order and I began tracking it. It was supposed to be in my hot little hands and on my noggin yesterday, arriving from Roswell, GA, and of course, I live in Dayton, OH. So imagine my surprise when I'm informed by tracking Sunday it's in Allen Park, MI (they missed me!). It sat there for about a day and a half before leaving yesterday for parts unknown. If it gets back on track, it will be in Cincy tonight (passing over me again), at my local PO tomorrow, and on my porch tomorrow afternoon. So it gets the scenic route.

On Sunday, I sold a nice Stetson 4X on eBay, and after getting paid, I dutifully shipped it yesterday to it's recipient, in Hawaii. Yes, Virginia, there are cowboys in Hawaii. Boxed it up, printed the shipping label, and took it to my local PO about 4:30 EST yesterday.

Tracking currently has it out for delivery in Waianae, HI, less than 24 hours after I dropped it off in Dayton. I find this hard to believe...

I'm not entirely surprised if you used the two-day, trackable option when sending your package.

We purchased a gift item from a vendor in NY on 12/07. The vendor happily took our money, then sat on the item until TODAY, with an expected delivery by Friday using standard snail mail, though the charge for shipping should have earned us a faster delivery option. Not planning on purchasing from her again.

On the other hand, we purchased a replacement item through Amazon expecting the standard two-day shipping, then discovered the origin was Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The thing was in my hands the next day, after tracking showed going through China, then the west coast.

I wish most companies would learn how to leverage their shipping resources the way Amazon has. They are SCARY efficient. Or they can see into the future. Either way, I get most packages form them far ahead of schedule.

I feel your pain! Bought a hat from a guy in Israel; USPS checked it in in Massachusetts, and then it went missing for 26 hours before showing up in Portland, Oregon. 26 hours later, it was in Philly, and it got to my door 12 hours later. Perhaps this Israeli hat wanted to see the US before settling in with me.

Well I'm waiting for a package from the US... and it is now in Brazil.
I don't know nor I understand why Brazil. If it were in the UK, France or Spain I would understand, now Brazil!?
Is it going to travel double distance for what?
Last US place on tracker was Chicago.

According to tracking, it left Cincy at 4:13 AM today, and sorting was complete in Hawaii at 8:37 AM. My wife speculated Santa got his hands on it, and worked his magic to get it to it's recipient well before Christmas. Perhaps the USPS has developed wormhole technology.

On the other hand, I bought an item from a guy in England and it took seven weeks to get here. SEVEN WEEKS!
