I'm on a roll!!! How about this Stetson 3x Beaver with Selv Edge for a $67.50 Buy It Now price. The previous owner said there was a best offer pending from France at the time I hit the BIN. I don't know why they just didn't pull the trigger on this baby.

All very nice lids, Top Dog. Well done.

Thanks Garret. The problems I'm running into now are the lack of room in my home office for storage and display and the lack of number of days in the week to wear them all.

Not really. This is a current auction, but it falls under the "outlandish" clause, and is a Buy It Now, so here it is.

A "stovepipe" that the seller hints is connected with some tall President who happens to be 200 this year. $1,600+. I think it looks like it's been pulled through a cow wrong-end-to. Interesting bit of history though. AND it's a topper with a thin ribbon.

Outlandish!

That stovepipe hat is what I point to when my SO rolls her eyes at another new hat acquisition. "Things could be worse. I could be wearing these all over the place". :p

Royal Stetson

My first vintage purchase arrived today. A Royal Stetson I got on eBay for $45.

Okay, being new to vintage, I want to ask some questions and solicit advice.

1. How do you date Stetsons?

2. How does the fit look? It feels great. It sits a little higher on my head than some of my other hats, but that's the vintage look, correct?

3. There are what looks to be scuff marks on the back (I hope you can see it in the photo below) and on the underside of the brim. Both small. What's the best way to get these out? A brush? A hat sponge?

4. Thoughts on the ribbon? How would this hat look with a smaller ribbon? This ribbon is 1 7/8, same as the brim. Crown is 4 1/2.

5. I want to play with the bash, and I'd really like some suggestions as to what you think would look good.

I'll bet the seller's getting excited at all the visits and increased number of watchers he's probably seeing as a result of this post! lol

especially if it's in great condition like it is .. brush or use the eraser to clean the scuff marks ... tighter front pinch would look nice ... over all IMHO that lid looks great on you... nice score, congrats!

Thanks for posting this, Scot. I just acquired one of these (identical - thin ribbon) in my size locally and will post pics soon enough. True US history treasures.

Black sweatband & that size tag...maybe 1970's. Others may have a better idea.

Unless I miss my guess -- although the sweat may appear black in the photo, I'm thinking that it is actually a very dark brown. The color and width of the sweat, along with that particular liner logo, would be consistent with a 60's Stetson lid.

Cheers,
