one of the more interesting derbies I've seen in a while - and the price of the size 7 suggests that I'm not the only one who appreciates it

I agree. Unfortunately I had a meeting to attend at the time of the auction close so someone had a chance to nibble the price upwards near the end.

Interesting NH provenance... the store was, among other things, a Concord retailer for Hawes Von Gal. It opened for business in 1890. Will share what I find when it arrives.

Extremely nice old hats, gentlemen! Congratulations ... and please keep us posted.

Roan: Happy to see, you scored the C&K ad. I already have The Early Bird ad, but wanted it as a gift for a good friend, if I could nick it at a low price. No problem, I'll just find something else. Congrats ;)

Congrats, Roan! Ole, if it makes you feel better, I'm no longer competing for the C&K Anderson ads, as I finally completed my set of 13 last week.

I have an issue now with a seller that got mad at a low winning bid and refuses to ship the hat.

I had that issue a few times in the past. One guy who I had the highest bid on an antique photo said that he "lost" the item and returned my money. But I know he didn't lose it because he ended up selling it in his catalog for twice what I paid for it. He just flat out lied to me because he didn't like what the bid went for.

Another guy claimed he sent it but it never arrived. I think this guy was lying, too, because of the things he said carping about the price I was paying in our emails. He refunded, too.

On one occasion I won a hat that the seller (IMHO) refused to send because the winning bid was so low. The seller's expectations were unrealistic - it was a 6 7/8 I was purchasing to gift to someone else. The seller refunded and of course I had no problem finding an equally nice (maybe nicer) hat for a comparable bid, very little competition for 6 7/8. I cannot help it if nobody else bid on the hat!

What nerve! Did the seller actually admit this or did he try to come up with some other reason as to why he doesn't want to ship the hat?

Seller tried to get me to pay more money. Then added in handling fees. Several emails saying I'm stealing the hat and I know it's worth more than I bid.

I do want the hat and It did go cheaper than it normally should have. But, that's not my fault.

I had asked about a BIN price for the hat and seller said he would rather let the auction run. I made an offer anyway. He declined.

I won the hat for less than I offered. That irritated the seller.

After a week I finally asked when it would be shipped. Again, I was told the hat is worth more than the bid. No response about shipping the hat.

Never encountered this before. I don't know how hard to push it. Seller could damage the hat or any number of things out of anger and spite.

I'm surprised because the seller has over 1000 deals on ebay with a 100% rating.

I paid within 5 hours of auction end.

No no ... please don't! I really meant, that I am happy, you won it. I love those ads and know, how hard it can be to collect them. My wish for this one was one of redundancy. I didn't need it. You did, and it ended up with just the right person. My congrats really came from my heart ;)

I'm also really happy on your behalf, Brad. I "only" have the 12 of them, although two of mine are cropped to the image itself. I would like to get the last - and over time get the full version of my cropped ones. Then I too will go on "Andersson-retirement" :D

I would let this one go for a refund. But, this hat doesn't show up very often in my size and it is a low price.

But, like you said....It's not my fault if no one else bid.

But that is the whole essence of an auction! He's not just a loser ... he's a really bad loser!

If you contact eBay, I'm sure you have a winner here.

I'm surprised because the seller has over 1000 deals on ebay with a 100% rating

Well, this hysterical bidder has actually twice given up on a seller - to the degree, where I didn't even wished to waist time on a flaming feedback. That was very unwise and not very friendly to all you other buyers. That is one way those bastards can keep a 100% rating.

You made me think, and I won't do it again. Please, accept my honestly meant apologies.

If you can document all that you have an ironclad case for fraud on the part of the seller if you send it all to ebay.

I say, put it all together and send him a copy, and note that if your purchase doesn't ship immediately in exactly the condition it was in when you won it, you turn it over to ebay's fraud department. He'll geek.

I can't see when that ad was posted. Is that an old ad by the same Seller or a new one by the new owner? Same price and lengthy description. Very strange if the new owner is listing it for what they paid.

PS: I'd love to own that hat!

Edit: I found where the Etsy shop "CluckaDuck" that listed the hat didn't open until January 29. I don't think that is enough time to have received the hat from when the Ebay auction ended on January 26.
