I've been wanting a silver / grey hat ever since I got my "silverbelly" campdraft (see avitar) and it wasn't silver.

my hopes is that it really is grey, as described, and with giveing it a cleaning and then change from the cattleman's crease to a stratroliner style crease.

worse comes to worse, for $20 I'll rake leaves in it :)

once it arrives, I'll post pics.

What do you think? was it worth it? ;)

They may well be $348 at Brooks Brothers, but they are $220 or so everywhere else.

You may have got it cheaper by allowing the auction to run its course, but in a popular size someone else may have easily bought it first. I don't think anyone'll buy a brand-spanking new one like yours for $124 in a store.

Nice hat.....I like the color. Does it not have a liner?

My thoughts exactly ... I've lost out on many 7 1/8 Borsos in the past .. and I never came across a brand new one @ this price so I had to .. the description states that it has a lining & will come in it's box .. I'll post pics of it after I get in my grubby hands :D

Hmmmmmm. It looks like one of the crushable models to me. The ALESSANDRIA doesn't have a leather band and is fully lined. He said the lining is in the box? WTF? :eusa_doh:

However.......either way, the price is right. Both the Alessandria and the crushables are over $200. But the crushable is fur felt, not wool. Even so, many have stated that it's over-priced. But if you want a Bors, you usually have to pay for it.

I like the shape of the hat you bought. Most of the new Borsalino's are tapered and look.....er......crappy. They're not real popular here on the Lounge. But yours looks GREAT.

Post some more photos when it arrives and let's see one on your noggin'. And if you don't like it, I wear a 7-1/8, so shoot me a PM. ;)

no no no ... my mistake

the seller said that the lining is gorgeous & the hat will ship with the hatbox

here's the description from the auction:

Borsalino (Italy) makers for Brooks Brothers. Tagged size 7 1/8. New with tags and original hat box. I tried the hat on once, but it doesn't fit -- a huge disappointment, since it is the finest hat I have ever had in my hands. Gorgeous olive brown felt with leather band and beautiful inner lining. This is the Borsalino Alessandria model so popular with European (and some American) politicians, entertainment stars, and other bigs. $348 at Brooks Brothers. No returns.

That one looks like the Borso Traveler with the cloth sweatband, from those photos. Even if it is, you got for a serious discount over retail. My Alessandria has it embossed on the sweatband as well as the silk liner. I don't see a liner here so that why I called Traveler, or whatever Borsalino calls that model...

This Playboy has been relisted by this seller & at least states it is not a 7 1/2. I haven't received my refund from PayPal but at least I know it is returned in good shape since he describes it unworn & mint condition!...
Got a notice from PayPal that I am getting a full refund. That only makes me out shipping charges back to this knob-head. Sorry if I bothered any fellow Loungers with this saga but was very theraputic on my end. Now I have funds for another lid!!!...

A couple days before hand saturate the sweat band with either lanolin or Peccard's and allow it to thoroughly soak in. Then either steam or a cold water soak will allow you to stretch the circumference by a half inch or more. Leave it in the jack til it dries.

If it doesn't work, send it in to a proper hat repair shop and they'll stretch it and make new bands for another 50 bucks.

It depends on the terms you search with. Usually I don't even use a size when I search. Searching for "stetson hat," for example may give you better results. Also, use the "titles and descriptions" option.

I watched that particular hat and it came up when I looked using "stetson hat" and "dobbs hat" because the hat included a Dobbs hatbox.

Most consider their customized eBay search queries highly guarded secrets. It can be the difference between finding the hidden gems. The best you can do is play around until you find results that work best for you. Good luck!
