Just won this tonight.

It'll be my first Cavanagh brand. Has a pencil curl brim but I can't seem to see any bound edge so we'll see when it gets here. Not a very good description or pics but that makes it a surprise! :D

You stole it, man. I'm confident that you'll be pleased with it. And I congratulate you on getting a high-end hat for a quite reasonable price. Thanks for providing yet more evidence that an old-hat fancier doesn't have to pay through the nose to build his collection.

My first Knox

Interior shot

Model type

Cost was USD46.

Any idea of age/era?

Black grossgrain ribbon hat band. 2 1/2" brim, 6" tall crown. Inside measurement of hat 24" around. Hat has never been worn, the only flaws are two marks (see picture) by size tag, that look like paper punch holes. Marked Knox New York, Levine Hat Co. St Louis, Player. Will ship in Dobbs Hat box.

Thanks Tony, I don't know much about Cavanagh brand and am glad to hear it's a high-end hat. Now hopefully it'll be in good condition when it comes!

This was a lucky trio of hats

A bare-bones ebay let's-take-a-chance yields a "Buffalo" Cavanagh edge 7 1/2 XLO that screams quality, a pristine "Midnight" 6 7/8 Cavanagh (with John Wanamaker house logo) Homberg and a 7 5/8 Homberg from Morville's Mens Wear, Philadelphia. My most pleasant surprise since I started this madness. Forgive my cross-post but I'm glad to be on the right side of a deal for once.

Good Lord Man!

Did you do good ..lol lol lol

I'd say Fantastic.

bolthead,

great score on the 51 block and flange as well. That is the same type of block I used to make the Speakeasy hat. I can hardly wait to see what you do with yours.

Well heres hoping I did well on this one, I am hoping that the second picture is a more accurate representation of the body color and that its not as faded as it looks but for 50 bucks it was worth a shot.

I'll say you did well, RPeers. Congrats.

$50 for a Whippet in good condition is a deal (also depending on size). What size is yours?

The posting said it didn't list a size, the measurements put it between 6 7/8 and a seven so I'm hoping it's shrunk from a 7 1/8 or that it will stretch that far heres hoping, if not back to the 'bay with it after a clean and reshaping (bound to bring up the price)

By the look of the sweatband (wavy) it might have shrunk a little bit.

You shouldn't have too much trouble stretching it. I know myself and others on here have successfully stretched 6 7/8 to 7 and even 7 1/8.

Nice find!
