I collect PEZ. Ebay was founded on the PEZ dispenser. The gent who founded it created ebay so his wife could have access to dispensers she couldn't get in her own area

This is an urban legend. The legend was started by the founder of ebay and was debunked by the same person.

I guess as of February 20th, that'll be a think of the past:( Not only that. I like to trade my older dispensers with people, that was why the bay started after all

Again, an urban legend. Ebay started with investors and had a serious interest in being a middle-man company as a conduit between sellers and buyers without the legal responsibility of holding physical merchandise and the problems therein. This is a little known fact, but was confirmed in an interview with the founder and presented in my Silicon Valley newspeper. The Pez story was just that, a cover story to generate interest on the beginning of a newly launched auction company. At the time, there were quite a few competitors so he created the story to stand out.

I cannot get past the holding peoples money for 21 days if they are a seller with less than 100 feedbacks. I have more feedback than that but it sure will discourage new people selling. This is where the good stuff comes from. Someone new cleaning out a closet and chunking it on ebay. It is what the magazines tell all the newbies to do. :eusa_doh:

There is currently discussion on the Ebay seller boards of a Class-Action Lawsuit of this rule. I'm curious to see where this leads.

According to Banking regulations which were posted, a BANK may hold transaction fees for up to 5 days. Since Ebay and Paypal are both companies and not Federally regulated BANKS or similar financial institutions under the umbrella of the Federal Regulations, these rules MAY or MAY NOT apply to them.

You've got to give credit to the person who came up with that new rule though. 21 days of interest holding millions and millions of dollars? Clever as a cat in a bottle of cream.

Ms. Daisy said,..."What good does that do. Oh, I know, it prevents ebay sellers from wanting to sell this lesser priced goods, hence allowing ebay the large company to make more money because the seller will now have to up their prices in order to make a decent prophet margin."
Shhhhh! We aren't supposed to know that! :eusa_doh:

Hopefully this will backfire in their over-stuffed corporate faces and result in a positive change, like their complete collapse. :) :eusa_clap
I could just feel the demise of Greedbay coming with their last rate increases a few months ago, and now this. :(
Now it's time for a new venue.

Not that your reply has anything to do with the topic at hand, but I feel it necessary to reply:
Seems you have access to the same Google everyone else does, not a little known fact but told in 2002 on CNN and can be found anywhere on the web by just googling ebay and Pez. What I will tell you is this, and I apologize to all you other loungers here for going off topic, but I didn't bring things off topic.......
Yes, Omidyar, the founder of ebay did at the time have a fiancee (now his wife) who collected PEZ. Yes, the chick in the PR department thought using that using her hobby would be great to generate buzz on the internet marketplace. So, although it might not have been the all together reason for the creation of ebay, it was in no way a fabricated story. I honestly do not know why you feel a need to so passionately quote my little statements that aren't even the real meat of what I'm talking about and bring this thread off topic. I don't even know why you would care so much about why ebay was founded, since it has absolutely nothing to do with the task at hand and was just a small side note in the point I was making, which did have to do with the awfulness that is modern ebay.
I am a vintage collector and a PEZ collector, I'm ticked off at what is going on with all of these increases, in particular the increases that will greatly affect the smaller sellers, or sellers who sell lower price point items. That is the point of my rant. I'll also let you know that in the first few years that ebay was in existence (actually it started out in 1995 as Auctionweb, and it was a completely different animal than what we now know as ebay) some of the most traded/auctioned items were PEZ. I personally traded with Pam Wesley (not bragging, just making a point), and that is also why every year, even for years after the how did you put it "debunking" of my theory, ebay releases limited edition PEZ dispensers. Maybe miss betty thinks hobby's outside of her own are not as important as her own, and that's why she felt the need to get so heated about my statements... who knows, but whatever it was, it was unwarranted......
OK, sorry to get a little heated there guys and gals, and I know I should be keeping things on topic, but I just can't let certain things slide....I know I haven't been here in months, this place certainly has changed. I realize there are a real lot of new faces, and I was actually looking forward to meeting all of them........brrr, it's become awfully chilly in here[huh] :eusa_doh: [huh]

Daisy, apparently, you took my comments personally.

Hopefully, in the future you can see beyond that opinion.

Daisy, Betty said nothing at all to criticize your hobby as a PEZ collector! Nor were her statements heated (anything but, actually). She was merely trying to clear up some statements about Ebay that have been reported (correctly or not) as false.

That would be nice but as a vendor which means I sell online other places besides ebay I cannot even comment at the classified section, though I do send things to ebay. It is blocked to me. [huh] :(

Hey Daisy, Betty... I just think it's super hard to read tone online. I've taken offense and I'm sure I've given it, too, over e-mail or whatever. Love and peace to all :) *

*except eBay - they can go %@$^%$%. Read tone in THAT!

I don't see too many non-power sellers left on eBay. The vintage listings are littered with new stuff made in China & no matter how many times I report the garbage, eBay will not move it, and I'm not going to wade through a hundred new things...so I go to the thrift stores more often,

I have just started putting "-chinese" on all my searches! Drives me nuts. You can be looking for "bias Jean Harlow" and you still get polyester Chinese jackets! Grrr!

If I want Chinese I will go to China for it, dammit! Oh wait, I did...
