Ok, I saw this cool 1920’s swim suit on eBay today, it was ending in four minuets, I saw it was only at 15.00 so, I placed a moderate bid of $25.01… I checked it to make sure it was correctly entered, then I placed the bid. Soon as it accepted my bid it said that my bid for $2,500.01 was the current bid! I SCREAMED!!! AAAAAAHHHH! WHAT HAPPENED??? I made sure that it was correct… I checked my periods and made sure there was no comas in there!!! Aaarrggg! I won the item to say the least…. For $51.00. I contacted the second bidder and offered the swim suit for $51.00 haven’t heard from them yet… I got a message from the seller and they want their money… I sent them a message telling them what happened… still waiting for a reply… I made sure they knew I wasn’t going to bounce on my bid and stuff so, lets hope some one plays ball with me. Oh my gosh, that’s just crazy! So, be careful when placing a bid on eBay, check that bid many times before you press “Submit”!!!

Oh Root, how are you going to get out of this one?

Yes, this is true but my problem remains... I have a budget of 25. not 51. and eBay screwed me! How would this happen? I made sure it was what I wanted to bid... checked it twice! Then submitted and it said $2,500.01 That's just crazy! Talk about your glitches!!!

 Good luck getting this all sorted out! Why don't you put a pic in this thread and see if anyone here would want to buy it from you?

Well, that's a good idea but, I feel I'm the only guy here who's crazy enough to really wear one of these thingslol I have it all under control, I will just have to skip going out to dinner a few times with the lady friend that's all. ;) My main gripe is with eBay... I'm going to send them a message and tell them what happened and see if I'm the only one it's happened too.

Thanks,

Those vintage swimsuits just strike me as being potentially really itchy in an area where I don't need those kind of troubles. Not to mention that wool tends to lose its shape when wet...

Let us know how it turns out anyway.

It could be a first.

It's the first I've ever heard of such a fubar. :(
However, if your bid turned out to be $51.00,....then there was someone else that had to have bid $50.00 maximum prior to your over-the-top "bid".

Somebody out there was willing to pay 50 clams for 'em. :)

Maybe wait a while and relist it as a $50.00 "buy it now"? [huh]

lol lol lol lol yeah well, hahahahahahah! I hear ya loud and clear brother! Now, I'm sure one could wear some kind of briefs under these and I'm sure that's what I'd do incase I do put them to use. Now, wool to me isn't that itchy, it's my best friend and I do know a guy who wears these things wile swimming and he's never mentioned any annoying itching in any general area.... hahahah!... sorry.

Well, these suits don't hold shape in water but, they'll dry and go right back to their shape from what I understand. The good thing is I don't do to much swimming any way.

The point is not to lose money... the second highest bidder placed a bid for $50. the next highest bid was mine at $2,500.00 by accident... but, it only went up a dollar so, if the guy I beat can't kick in one dollar more then he or she was willing to pay for it, they can... well, lets be nice and just say I'll just keep it.

Whoa...

... that's a truly scary story, Root. Hope you get some satisfaction. I would get someone on the phone from eBay. Tell them what happened. See if they can replicate the problem or have heard about others... Then have THEM contact the seller. ANYWAY, sorry to hear about this. Keep us posted on developments, please. -- Z

Offer it to the underbidder at $49 - you're out $2 and shipping. Unless you can set the whole thing up with the seller's agreement, in which case you're out Nada.
Keep it to make some kind of point to yourself - you're out $51 plus shipping, and you're stuck with a funky wool swimsuit for which you've overpaid.

I heard from the runner up, he said that his max was $50. and he had no intention to pay more then that... I guess $1.00 is going to brake him? WHATEVER! Jerk. He said that he'd be not willing to buy it off of me for more then what my max was supposed to be... $25. ok bud, yeah, that's going to happen!

I'm going to just bite the bullet on this and keep it, I'm sure things will work them selves out but, geeeeeeez I don't know how or why this happened. I have wanted an early suit like this, I don't own any swim wear because I've wanted one like this... so, this summer may be the first that I get back to the pool... boy, it's been a long, long time!
