I certainly have a love/hate relationship with German. I’ve been wrestling with the language my entire life. I don’t so much mind the long words. It is the complicated and irregular grammar that is confounding. But it’s my experience that German speakers are quite forgiving when I slur or fudge my endings. They are just bemused to meet an American who can almost speak German. Almost, but not quite.
