Wow! That's a great looking hide, what an amazing patina on it...

I tried to nab one of these from Eastman , but they went soooo quickly!

Good score there Sir!

I love the A1.

Wow, looks fabulous. Did it arrive today? Damn, mine still didn't arrive, but today is a holiday in Spain I imagine I'll get it tomorrow or Monday. I grabbed the 38 he had on the site. Sold my other ELC A-1 to another forum member. I just love the darker rougher cape, much prettier in my opinion than the lighter smoother colour they offer.

That’s a cool jacket, I have never considered an A1 before but after seeing these pictures I am considering it now.

Nice to see they have left the big scar on the back panel.

A successful purchase I would say.

I have recently become a born again Eastman fan. The A1 is just amazing. Couple this with a great used Roughwear B-3 and I wonder why I aspire to buy very expensive jackets from Japan when such great products are so close to home with out ridiculous import charges.

Yes, these guys have been doing their R&D, unlike other mfgrs who continue to make inaccurate repros and pass them off as authentic. Have you ever looked at the cuff length on a BR? Laughable.lol

Beautiful jacket Senicko, good score!

Really love the darker colour.

Look forward to seeing how it wears in...

A couple of outstanding jackets. Thanks for the pictures, both of you.

What hide is that? Cow?

Why is it good that they left the "scar" on the back?
Personally I like it, but is this some measure of authenticity
or something that I don't know about?

Congrats.

Cow? Bite your tongue man! That is capeskin, which is sheepskin. This type of leather was used in the fabrication of the original A-1s. Today, normally this type of leather is not used, it is reserved for making other garments such as gloves.

The scaring on the back in my opinion gives the jacket a more authentic look as these jackets were made with all the imperfections, I mean a piece of leather would not have been thrown away simply because the animal ran up against some barbed wire. IMO it gives the jacket a 30s look.

Thanks for clearing up both points. The leather looks heavier
and darker than the capeskin used on Good Wear A-1s. It looks
really great. Both are enviable jackets. I know, because I am
envying them.

Here's a pic of the ELC A-1 I just sold. It was a much lighter shade and also a lighter weight cape than this one. Both are cape though.

Cool A-1's. I recently purchased Eastman's last old model A-1 in russett (I believe its Steerhide). I know its not capeskin. So, not as accurate but I LOVE it. HPA had one size 42 that had been sitting there for a while so I was able to get it for a nice price. Perfect fit, never been more happy with any jacket.

A GREAT jacket. I will post a pic or two when time permits.

It's easy to see why ELC chose not to use the dark seal cape for the production model A-1. It just doesn't look right.

Yes, it doesn't look right for an original A-1, but I like the darker seal, so for me it was the right choice. I personally did not like the lighter colour on the A-1. This was just what I was looking for, and for less than 200 Pounds it was welll worth it. :D
