Good morning folks I would really appreciate some advice regarding the condition of my new jacket.

It's a early 90's Eastman b3 that I recently purchased on ebay.

I understand that's it's a old jacket but some if the panels on the back feel rough, is this an indication that the coating will peel soon?
Is there anything I can do to help?

Kind regards Adrian

Looks fairly normal wear to my eyes, doesn't look like it's about to come off. In fact I have similar on one of mine.

Not too sure what if anything will fix it

My redskin d1 is much newer and does the same. I rub some leather conditioner in 2xs a year. Seems to help out.

Is there a consensus on how to care for sheepskin?

I thought conditioner was not recommended as it's a coated leather.

I emailed John Lever today (a man in the know!) He suggested to do nothing, but enjoy it...

Done it several times. Wouldn’t be able to tell other than it returns it to a new appearance. I don’t thinks it’s necessary for integrity, just looks.

I have put everything on my B-6 from Pecards to Mink Oil, before I heard that it was contraindicated.

My jacket looks great after 20 years and much of the cracking and peeling seems to have been forestalled FWIW.

Just keep in mind they are "Supposed" to break in that way. I think it looks Awesome when the chrome comes off a bit...It's wonderful! Sheepskin is incredibly fragile stuff, That looks to me like good honest wear.
