Dye Stain on Lining of Aero Highwayman

Hello, I have recently bought a horse hide highwayman from Aero and it is awsome! Although the weather is warming up now I still wear it as much as possible, however, a small dark stain has appeard on the lining at belt level which I know to be dye from a black leather belt I wear with my jeans, so, my question is, does anyone know a good way of removing a black dye stain like this without damaging the sateen lining? This no big deal as the stain is very small and not in a noticeable place so I can live with it but if I can shift it without harming the lining why not? Any advice welcome.

I'd call this character. Well earned character, earned by wearing and enjoying your jacket. My advice: keep on enjoying your awesome Aero and add even more wear (character) to it.

Are you concerned about the resale value? If not, I agree with Marc, if yes, I'd start with rubbing the lining with a wet rag with some detergent. Might take off some dye so the mark will be barely visible.

It's so subtle that you'd need to draw a circle around it for me to see where it is.

Try taking a toothbrush and some mild detergent. Wet the brush bristles and gently scrub it out. Take care not to scrub too hard.

Thanks guys, no, I have no intention of ever selling the jecket so perhaps marc is right, just accept it as charecter and not be so OCD about it.

This is by far the best stain remover on the market! Even gets out blood (if garment hasn’t been in the dryer). As stated, the best remedy is none if you can live with it as patina.

Thanks Mike but I think I will just live with the stain, but, just in case I change my mind, is Zout likley to cause a fades patch on the sateen lining?

I would leave the stain. Attacking them with cleaners could lift the colour of the lining, which would just make it worse. Over time, these sorts of stains will fade.

This is so true. I got a small bleach spot on one of my favorite pairs of jeans. It was not too noticeable but it bothered me so I bought some RIT dye that I thought was a good match for the color of the jeans. Turns out it wasn’t a good match and what had been a small bleach spot is now a much larger dark blue stain. I should’ve just left it the hell alone!

I live in Joisey. I can attest that Zout gets blood stains out real good. Also mud stains when you've been digging at night. Gardening, of course. Even gets out the stains left by the water splashes when you dump something heavy in the East River. Great stuff! Just pay cash when you buy it and don't keep the receipt.

As somebody who has an Wayfarer made from unfinished light Horween, I can tell you that living with stains and marks on an expensive jacket takes nerve and resolve. But it can be very liberating to stop caring about this kind of small stuff. Over time, these marks tell the story of the jacket, and those are always the most interesting ones.

Honest to God, this is why I buy used. I let someone else go through the angst of that first stain, tear, abrasion......already broken in is much easier on my psyche.
