I just happened to spot that a favorite of several here at the lounge, the FBI Story starring Jimmie Stewart is finally out on DVD.

Some people pann it others love it and it is a genuine Red Scare film for the final segment.

Don't let it put you off, the story is good and the different decades seem to be faithfully reproduced. Some really swell looking hats in this one too! Stewart wears an Open Road style hat in the Oklahoma segment.

It is a style of film you just don't see made anymore, too.

Enjoy,

I prefer FULL screen [no big black bars]

According to AMAZON it is in WideScreen.

Too bad those black bars should be on the bad guys prison uniform!

I prefer WS as I like to see what the director filmed, Full screen or panned and scanned has short falls in situations wehre the action is across the complete screen or in some conversation scenes. You have to lose some of the picture.

How Morbius' Daughter Alta knows what is up from hearing the conversation is not apparent from the P&S fullscreen version of Forbidden Planet.

One of the conversations in the Desk Set loses much relevance in P&S fullscreen.

Solution get a new TV in HD 1080p ASAP.

My favorite example of a butchery by P&S to fullscreen is Ben Hur. The chariot scene is almost unwatchably bad if you've seen it in the original widescreen.

I remember seeing the FBI Story movie on TV, I'll have to check it out.

My next TV will definitely be movie proportioned.

It's widescreen and looks and sounds just fine! Believe me, you want this movie to be WIDEscreen, because the aspect ratio for many Cinemascope movies and other widescreen formats is murdered on TV. The FBI Story has long been a favorite of mine and it was a joyous day when I snagged the DVD.

Now if they'd only release Jimmy's 1955 movie, Strategic Air Command.
