A couple weeks ago, I went to the Warner Bros. Studio Sale. It's like a garage sale that the studio does every year to get rid of some inventory. You can find everything there from furniture to clothing and lots of brick-a-brack. I've been in the market for a nice light summer suit, so when I came across this double breasted, peak lapel, light tan pinstripe suit, I snatched it up, especially because it was my size.
I decided to wear it to the Cicada Club event, which was fabulous by the way. At some point, my brother from Louisville called me and I told him what I was doing. He likes to give me a good natured ribbing because it seems like every time he calls me, I'm out dancing or something. He asked about my suit and I described it to him. Then he asked about the brand. I had no idea. I never pay attention to labels because I shop for style and not brands.
I told him, "Hold on, let me look in the jacket. Huh, what do you know? It's a Valentino."
He couldn't believe it and neither could I. I don't know a lot about designers, but I know enough to recognize the Valentino brand. Later, I did some research and found some Valentino suits online selling for $1,000, and one fashion blog I found said that a Valentino suit would set you back about $2,000, which they claim is not a bad price. Yeah, right.
I paid $45 dollars for mine. The kicker is that I don't think the suit was ever worn. It still had tags on it and all the pockets were still sewn shut.
I tell ya, thrifting and shopping at oddball places like the Warner Bros. Studio Sale has made me a believer.
