I prefer guest hosts who have a real enthusiasm for classic film. Gimme a Scorsese or Tarantino who can talk the talk. Drew is dull and it's because she hasn't seen many old films. LM would do a great job hosting as would a few other Loungers.

Thanks you guys for the kind words -- if they decided to do a Salute To Wheeler and Woolsey any time soon, I'm in. They can reach me in care of the Lounge, and I work cheap.

Seriously, though, they could do a lot better with some of these celebrity hosts. I like Osborne OK, and I liked Bob Dorian in the good old days of AMC, but most of the ones that have come along since are trying too hard to be "relevant to the modern audience."

The best classic-film TV host I ever saw was Dana Hersey, who used to host "The Movie Loft" on Channel 38 out of Boston. Great films of the thirties, forties, and fifties every night when there wasn't a ball game, "presented with limited commercial interruption." Hersey knew his stuff and knew how to present the films with respect, without ever coming across as condescending or pompous, and you knew he had actually *seen* the films before he introduced them. If TCM wants a really good, classy host they should find Hersey and bring him back.
